If you are registered with the Office of Services for Individuals with Disabilities, please obtain your accommodation letters from the OSID and present them to the course instructor to discuss any academic accommodations you need. If you believe you need accommodation and are not registered with the OSID, please contact the office in the Whitlock Building Room 361 by email at disserv@eku.edu or by telephone at (859) 622-2933. Upon individual request, this syllabus can be made available in an alternative format. Attendance: First Day Attendance: BY DECEMBER 17TH, 2015, BY 11 P.M. EST, STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE THE SYLLABUS QUIZ, IN WEEK 1, TO FULFILL THE REQUIREMENT OF ATTENDING THE FIRST DAY OF CLASSES. STUDENTS WHO DO NOT COMPLETE THE SYLLABUS QUIZ WILL BE CONSIDERED ABSENT ACCORDING TO UNIVERSITY “USE IT LOSE IT” POLICY AND WILL BE DROPPED FROM THE CLASS ROSTER. For this course, all correspondence and coursework will be conducted entirely online; thus, there is no need for an official attendance policy. However, in order to help ensure successful completion of the course, students are strongly urged to "attend class" (i.e., visit and review the course web site) on a frequent and consistent basis—at least every 24-48 hours. For example if I send you an email about an assignment that was submitted which was either incomplete, or needs some clarification and you do not respond within 48 hours, then I will accept the assignment as is, and score it appropriately. Since an online course is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, both weekdays and weekend days are part of an online course’s format, so check your course’s announcements and emails often. The last day to withdraw from this course with a fee is January 10th, 2015. Evaluation Methods: Students will complete 3 major essays and other assignments. All points will count toward the final grade. Final Exam: Essay 3 will serve as the final exam. You must receive a passing grade on all three essays to pass the class. REQUESTING TEACHER TO RECHECK A SCORED ASSIGNMENT: Students, with the number of assignments per term and the number of students in each class, it is imperative and mandatory that if you have a question about an already scored assignment, please email me immediately within the next 36 hour time period. This way I can set aside time to address any issue with you and also have the assignment still fresh. So remember, if you have a question or concern, it is mandatory that you notify me within 24 hours after the assignment has been scored. If you wait, there is a good chance I will not remember all the necessary details about the past assignment and will not be helpful in making adjustments. Remember that a student who has sufficient point potential to pass the course will not pass if all four main essays are not turned in. So do not stop mid-term when you think you may have a passing score, as in this course, the points alone are not a sufficient completion of the course's requirements to receive a passing grade. There is no extra credit work assigned. There is no penalty for turning in assignments early- especially if you know ahead of time you may have an upcoming commitment that an early assignment submission can resolve. Grading Criteria: Rubrics will be provided for major essays. Your grade on Peer Reviews and Journals will be based on answering the prompts completely and adhering to the conventions of standard written English. Grading Policy Deadlines: No late assignments will be accepted. Assignment Turn-Around: Assignments will be graded in a timely manner and posted in the Grade Center no later than 2 business days after the assignment due date. Student Progress: Students will be notified of their mid-term grade via EKU Direct. Academic Integrity: Students are advised that EKU’s Academic Integrity policy will strictly be enforced in this course. The Academic Integrity policy: http://studentrights.eku.edu/academic-integrity. Questions regarding the policy may be directed to the Office of Academic Integrity. WINTER 2015 TERM COURSE OUTLINE First Day Attendance: BY DECEMBER 17TH, 2015, BY 11 P.M.
