It is a legal obligation on employers to provide formal Health and Safety Training under the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations (NI) 1992. It has also been found that new arrivals are statistically the most likely to be injured, and soon after starting work. Typically, site induction training takes approximately one hour and should be carried out by the Contracts Manager/Site Manager/Foreman, depending upon the management structure of the organisation. It should be properly planned and organised by the use of checklists. Induction Training should be recorded in a register. Whilst a standard format has been adopted in this manual, there remains considerable flexibility, enabling users to adapt the content to their specific requirement. The first page provides a format for the training and a checklist of headings that could be included in the induction talk. This is then followed by the site induction programme which elaborates on the previous checklist of subjects. It is presented in such a way that view foils can if required by produced. It should be understood that the headings chosen are examples only. There could be others on specific projects which would need to be considered depending upon the type of project.
