Clayton Lafferty in 1970, Human Synergistics has grown to be an international network of affiliate offices offering some of the most highly respected and widely used training and development materials in the world. Our pioneering Desert Survival Situation and the Life Styles Inventory were the foundation to the development of a wide range of material. On-going research through our Centre for Applied Research (HSCAR) at the University of Illinois, with the support of the international offices, continues to provide reliable and valid assessment and measurement instruments. We work with organizations to assist them in reaching their full potential by strengthening their individual contributors, leaders, work teams, and organizational cultures. Our goals: • Engage and motivate people • Inspire sustained change, and • Measurably improve organizational performance. Human Synergistics' integrated development instruments help maximize the effectiveness of individuals, teams and organizations by measuring and describing the factors underlying performance into the 12 'styles' of the Circumplex. Identifying these styles of thinking, behaving and interacting is the first step in assessment-based training. Human Synergistics Canada The Canadian office is located in St. Marys, ON, with a supporting office in Montreal, QC. We have been proudly serving the needs of Canadian human resource and organizational development professionals since 1982. Our staff members provide product support, scoring services, certification training and consulting services in the following training and development technologies: • Experiential Learning • Style-based Measurement • Competency-based Measurement Our offerings are described in this catalogue and we encourage you to contact our office with any comments or questions concerning the instruments themselves or their various applications. We seek to provide you with the responsive and consultative support you need for consistent, professional success. We look forward to serving you. '"Without loyal, committed customers, our business will not succeed. We view our clients as partners and treat them as such. We will constantly strive to improve the way we do business so that we can always exceed our customer's expectations. A measure of our success is the measure of the success of our customers". TheThe Human Synergistics Integrated Development System Human Synergistics Integrated Development System A multi-level system for organizational performance measurement and development, this system enables organizations to initiate programs at individual, group, or organizational levels, either simultaneously or sequentially. Our distinctive Circumplex is a quantitative measurement instrument which provides a common language and theme to link these multi-level development efforts. Having the capacity to show people the connection between their thinking styles and behaviours and their performance, and that of their work group or even the overall organization, can be a powerful change agent. Our instruments are based on three training and development technologies: Experiential learning Team building simulations, such as Desert Survival Situation, allow people to experience for themselves the forces of synergy. "Group synergy" results when cooperative efforts of two or more people working together produce ideas, solutions and products that exceed the quality of those produced by individuals working alone. These hands-on exercises provide situations where people can experience participative decision making. They are cost-effective, easy to facilitate, fun, memorable, and have a lasting impact. Style-based measurement Diagnostic assessments such as Life Styles Inventory (LSI), Group Styles Inventory (GSI) and the Organizational Culture Inventory (OCI) use the Circumplex measurement model to measure 12 specific "styles" -- modes of thinking, behaving, and interacting. The Circumplex brings order to a complex array of factors related to the effectiveness of people and the systems they create. Individual, group, and organizational assessments constitute an integrated system for organizational diagnosis and development. Competency-based meassurement Diagnostic assessments, such as Management Effectiveness Profile System (MEPS) and the Organizational Effectiveness Inventory (OEI) focus on identifying and developing specific skill and process areas. Competency-based materials are available at all levels for comprehensive development. ● Individual -- measures leadership skills such as delegating, goal setting, communication and effective planning. ● Group -- measures team skills such as listening, constructive differing, identification of objectives, and consideration of alternatives. ● Organizational -- measures broader skills and processes such as service quality, human resource management, appraisal/reinforcement practices, and job design issues. Development of the Individual is the Key to Organizational Success 4 To Order: PHONE (519) 284-4135 FAX (519) 284-4272 Individual Development Life Styles Inventory The more your organization's members know about how they think about themselves, their work and the people around them, the better prepared they are to improve. That’s where Human Synergistics' Life Styles Inventory (LSI) and STYLUS come in. What sets LSI and STYLUS apart from other development materials is that they actually reveal the thinking styles that help or hinder an individual in fulfilling his or her potential. Also, because inventory results remain confidential — for the focal participant’s eyes only — honesty and accuracy are greatly enhanced. LSI and STYLUS measure attitudes, motivations, and perceptual filters. They have high reliability and validity. The research on which they are based sets out to identify those attitudes that help or hinder performance and effectiveness. It is based on cognitive psychology rather than personality theory. Attitudes are the layer of personality that have the most potential for change. How LSI/STYLUS measure 12 key thinking patterns, or “styles”, that LSI promote performance change and improvement by increasing personal Works understanding of one’s thinking and behaviour. By responding to 240 inventory items, participants learn exactly where they need to focus their development efforts, without ambiguity or guesswork. The results are plotted on a 'circumplex', or circular graph, for easy visualization. This profile acts as a personal developmental needs assessment, calling attention to the individual’s strengths as well as areas needing improvement. Turning Using their profiles as benchmarks, individuals are now prepared to set Potential into targeted improvement goals. They are shown how to formulate Action specific strategies to achieve them. Further, post-testing makes ongoing follow-up easy. LSI is a self-scored instrument that encourages participants to create strategies for change by using the SelfDevelopment Guide. STYLUS is scored by Human Synergistics to produce an accurately-interpreted report of analysis that is specific to the focal individual. Both can have a 360° feedback component. Basically, L/I teaches leaders strategies to create a constructive working environment. Based on feedback from others, L/I measures the effectiveness of the leader along two primary criteria: Impact on Others The Self and 360 feedback inventories assess the impact that the leader has on the follower's LSI. Impact can be Constructive or Defensive. To complement this data, the inventory measures the impact the leader ideally would like to have on others. Ideal and actual impact are then compared. Leadership Strategies L/I measures and provides feedback on the strategies that the leader uses.
