Donald Davenport (BS 1965) is a retired secondary mathematics teacher from Almont Community Schools in Imlay City,
Michigan. Through a 35-year career, he has witnessed many mathematics revolutions, and is very knowledgeable about
a long-lasting career in the education field.

Steve Billnitzer (BA 1979) works at CBS as a ratings analyst. He measures, analyzes, interprets and tracks network
ratings data for CBS primetime sitcoms and dramas. CBS Broadcasting is one of the four major U.S. television networks,
and as a large media conglomerate, it hires hundreds of people with degrees in the computer and actuarial sciences.
Elizabeth Rizzo, Ratings Specialist, is also joining him.
UM Civil and Enviromental Engineering

Matt LaChance (BS 2011) works as a data processing and workflow automation programmer with the UM Digital Library
Preservation Service, a division of the University of Michigan Library. DLPS contributes in a variety of ways to the highlycollaborative effort of building digital libraries.

unique and innovative company pioneering the retailing of furniture on the Internet. Mattress USA hires math majors as
analysts – required skills include data modeling and forecasting, exposure to data mining tools and techniques, and
knowledge of basic statistical analysis. Application of mathematics in statistics and web analytics is a plus. Mattress USA
is looking for a Pricing Manager to optimize the pricing for thousands of products utilizing price management software
tools and sound statistical analysis.
Michigan Medical School, M-Prep
Michael Simonov (BS 2007) is a medical school student and Co-Founder of M-Prep. Medicine requires a great deal of
analytic thinking, algorithmic understanding of disease processes, and diagnoses. M-Prep, founded in 2008, is a fastgrowing online education company focusing on pre-medical test preparation. M-Prep is currently hiring programmers

Matthew Masarik (PhD 2012) is a research scientist with the Michigan Technological Research Institute. Michigan
Technological University is a recognized leader in the research, development and practical application of sensor and
information technology. There, they solve critical problems in national security, protecting and evaluating critical
infrastructure, bioinformatics, earth sciences, and environmental processes. Useful mathematical skills in this field
include image processing, statistics, digital signal processing, numerical analysis, linear algebra, and probability. Possible
summer internships are available.

Wen Ning (BS 2013) is an actuarial assistant with Milliman’s Milwaukee-Chicago offices. Milliman is among the world's
largest providers of actuarial and related products and services. They are looking for students with a main focus in
actuarial mathematics for possible full-time and internship opportunities. Math students that have passed CAS/SOA
actuarial exams with a concentration in another field are welcome to apply as well. Winter and summer internships are
available.
UM Program in Survey Methodology Department
Patricia Gregory is representing the Program in Survey Methodology at The University of Michigan. PSM brings together
faculty and scientists from the social and behavioral sciences in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts; the
School of Public Health; and the Institute for Social Research. PSM is a program where students learn the science of
surveys. Students in the program study with some of the world's leading survey methodologists while pursuing their
Master's or PhD degree. Moreover, the quantitative strengths of disciplines such as communication studies, economics,
education, political science, psychology, sociology, and statistics are integral to the empirical underpinnings of the
program.

Alisha Roberts is representing Quicken Loans. As a Detroit-based company, Quicken Loans Inc. is the nation’s largest
online home lender and the country’s third largest retail home mortgage lender. Quicken has career and internship
opportunities for metrics analysts, data and business intelligence and several other areas where math majors could
succeed.

System. UMHS and the University of Michigan Medical School encompass a wide range of clinical and research activities.
While some areas draw more directly on a mathematics background than others, Dr. Singer is here to discuss how a
mathematics degree can be excellent preparation for the rigors of medical school.
The William Davidson Institute
Beatrix Balogh (BS 2013) is here representing The William Davidson Institute (WDI), a non-profit research and
educational institute established at the University of Michigan in 1992. The various initiatives within WDI apply
mathematics in various ways. The Healthcare Research Initiative at WDI incorporates mathematical modeling of
epidemiological diseases, systems dynamics modeling of markets/forecasts, and data/statistical analysis of the global
market for various disease medicines. As a research associate, Beatrix uses her skills modeling in applied math, data
analysis, statistics, and optimization.
