The Academy is one of the ministries of Cresset Baptist Church and shares the same facilities. Since the Academy's beginning in 1975, it has grown from an enrollment of 60 students to the present student body of 265 students in prekindergarten through grade twelve. Cresset offers a well-rounded Christian education for the youth of 7 NC counties and as many as 36 foreign countries. The high school is a discipleship model college-preparatory program. Staff: There are forty-eight members of the Cresset Christian Academy teaching/administrative staff (Infants-Grade 12). Each is a strong Christian, active in a local church. Our Academy teachers hold teaching or administrative certificates through the Association of Christian Schools International. At least 20% have graduate studies. Average years of experience: 17. Our Prekindergarten has a 3-star rating. Explanation of Transcript: The class rank of students in grades 9-12 is determined using a 4.0 weighted scale. All courses are taught from a college-preparatory perspective, with some courses being labeled Honors due to advanced content and some labeled AP because they are Advanced Placement courses. Honors courses are worth one additional point. AP courses are worth two additional points. Courses: Academic classes meet for 36 weeks, 5 days per week. The year-long courses are 40 minutes per period. One unit of credit represents one successfully completed academic course. All students are required to take a Bible course each year. Bible Study classes are rigorous academic classes which combine critical thinking skills, written composition, and the study of history and philosophy. In addition to academic classes, each high school student is required to complete 36 hours of community service annually. Art, Language and Composition, Literature, and Calculus AB courses may be taught at the AP level. Students who have the potential to succeed in these courses can usually enroll in them. Students are recommended by their teachers, approved by their parents, and accepted by their own decision. Students can compete in soccer, cross country, swimming, volleyball, basketball, baseball, track, tennis, and golf. Teams are formed based on student interest. Academic Competition: Students participate in Creative Writing, Music Festivals, Art Festivals. and Science Fairs. National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society Band, Concert Choir, and Academy Singers represent the school in performances at home and away. Yearly musicals such as Les Misérables, The King and I, The Wizard of Oz, Oklahoma, Oliver, Shrek, and Mary Poppins utilize the combined efforts of the band, drama, choral, and art departments.
