Course Description:
This course will cover development over the course of life and cultural
commonalities and differences in development.
Learning Objectives:
1. Students should understand the complexity of development including physical, cognitive,
social, and emotional development at varying stages of life.
2. Students should understand strengths and weaknesses of research contributing to knowledge
about human development.
3. Students should be able to describe core features of various stages of development over the
lifespan.
Final Grade will be based on the following:
13 POINTS/13%
Chapter exams taken on Pearson website (MyDevelopmentLab/MyPsychLab)
associated with the textbook. Must pass chapter exam at 80% correct. Can have multiple attempts.
7 POINTS/ 7%
Single page paper/essay discussing example of using ideas in
HTTSKWLLSKWT book in one’s own life and evaluating ideas in book.
20 POINTS/20%
Exam 1 consists of 50 multiple choice questions. Each question worth .4 pts.
25 POINTS/25%
Exam 2 consists of 50 multiple choice questions. Each question worth .5 pts.
35 POINTS/35%
Final exam consists of 100 multiple choice questions. Each question worth .35
pts. Final exam is cumulative.
Grading Curves:
96-100 points =A
92-95 points =A88-91 points= B+
There are 100 total points to be earned. The exams will be challenging.
84-87 points =B
72-75 points =C
60-63 points =D
80-83 points =B68-71 points =C56-59 points =D76-79 points= C+
64-67 points= D+
55 or less= F
THERE IS NO EXTRA CREDIT OFFERED IN THIS COURSE.

LEARN THE MATERIAL
Expectations:
1.
Students will complete all of the reading and attend lectures.
2.
Students will be respectful of the learning process during lectures (e.g. no disruptive
behavior/ no cell phone use).
3.
Students will take all four exams. All exams will be made available on Blackboard and
can be taken during a 2 day period in UH 5000. Students must take exams in
UH5000 between the designated times. There will be a 90 minute time limit for each
exam. No notes or books are allowed to be used during any of the exams. You will be
prevented from opening other windows by the Respondus Lockdown Browser. Given that
you have two days to take the exam, no make-up exams will be allowed.
4.
Students will show academic honesty and integrity. Cheating and/or plagiarism will result
in disciplinary action.
5.
Students will be courteous and professional when interacting with other students or with the
instructor.
6.
Disciplinary action for violation of these policies will be decided on a case by case basis
and will be in accord with University policy.
