Same look, totally new character
The new Top-Performance 4-cylinder Genesis 4-stroke
engine may look the same from the outside, but don’t let
looks mislead you! We’ve gone through the powerplant
from intake to exhaust. We have re-engineered it, added
new technology, and completely changed its character.
The new 4-cylinder engine uses Yamaha-exclusive EXUP
technology to deliver even more engine performance,
specifically more midrange torque for dominant
acceleration. This variable valve, located in the exhaust
collector, opens and closes in response to changes in rpm,
thus changing the exhaust pipe’s effective area. EXUP
controls the exhaust pressure waves during valve overlap
(when the intake and exhaust valves are open at the
same time). It improves exhaust flow around the exhaust
valve by preventing blow-back from interfering with the
incoming charge and reducing the resulting power loss.
Intake and exhaust efficiency are significantly improved.
The ignition map complements the EXUP for very linear
torque delivery at low to medium engine speeds, resulting
in strong acceleration you’ll appreciate off the line and
exiting corners.
The fuel injection (F.I.) system has been redesigned,
relocating the throttle valve and injector closer to the
intake valve skirt than the ’10 engine. This results in
sharper throttle response than ever before! We have
new lightweight forged pistons in the cylinders, as well,
with a new dome shape to complement the new intake
valve event angle. These pistons are manufactured using
Yamaha’s proven forging methods: the aluminum alloy is
heated and forged into shape without melting it, keeping
the aluminum’s solidified structure very strong while
maintaining the piston’s very light weight. And, because
fuel injection helps ensure very uniform combustion,
“rocking” is reduced as the piston changes direction, which
reduces vibration and makes for quieter engine operation.
The entire engine breathes easier, thanks to
fully re-engineered intake and exhaust systems.
For example, the intake funnels inside the airbox
are shorter than the previous design to achieve
maximum volumetric efficiency at high engine
speeds. Also, the titanium exhaust pipes are 38mm
in diameter and dump directly into one exhaust
collector, instead of previous design, which used
35mm pipes configured in a 4-2-1 design.
Reliability is a core value at Yamaha. To help the
engine keep running strong year after year, a knock
sensor is in place to help protect the engine from
detonation should you encounter low-quality fuel.
The result? You get better midrange torque and
better top end horsepower than the 2010 Apex
engine without sacrificing reliability.
Top Performance 4-Cylinder
Genesis® 4-Stroke
Our newest powerplant, the 4-cylinder Top Performance
Genesis engine, represents the third generation of our
competition-dominating engine series. This latest 4-stroke has
even more low and midrange torque than its predecessors for
mind-blowing acceleration performance. New Exhaust Ultimate
Power Valve (EXUP) technology controls the exhaust pressure
waves to prevent blow back from interfering with the fresh
charge entering the combustion chamber. The high-tech fuel
injection system features a new design to put the injector close
to the intake valve, giving the already-snappy engine even
better throttle response. You’ll also enjoy its Engine Braking
Reduction System (EBRS), which relieves the air pressure in
the cylinders and lets the sled freewheel when you let off the
throttle.

High Performance 3-Cylinder
Genesis® 4-Stroke
The over-achieving Genesis 3-cylinder engine is the heart
of our lightweight, high-performance, and aggressive FX
Nytro model family. Its advanced fuel injection keeps the
3-cylinder engine running at optimum performance. Thanks
to this amazing engine, FX Nytro has dominated its class at
the Old Forge Shootout, twice claiming top speed as well
as posting the best average ET over four runs down the 1/4mile track.

Mid-Performance 3-Cylinder
Genesis® 4-Stroke
Our Mid-Performance Genesis is the next generation of
trail cruising powerplants. Designed from the start to be the
ultimate trail engine package, the Mid-Performance 3-cylinder
engine delivers simplicity, excellent fuel economy, and great
performance. The advanced fuel injection system automatically
keeps it running at optimum output and fuel efficiency for the
conditions. It also offers our Engine Braking Reduction System
(EBRS) to let the sled freewheel when you let off the throttle.

Mid-Performance Carbureted 3-Cylinder
Genesis® 4-Stroke
The dependable, durable, and fuel efficient carbureted
Genesis engine has been the foundation of snowmobiling’s
4-stroke revolution. The carbureted classic engine’s 3-cylinder
design is silky smooth and very trail-friendly.

Sport-Performance 2-Cylinder
Genesis® 4-Stroke
Lightweight, dependable, and fun, the Genesis SportPerformance engine’s high-tech design delivers responsive
performance on the trail and off. Powering the distinctive
Phazer family of sleds, this 2-cylinder engine is quick-revving
and very torquey for sporty acceleration. The advanced fuel
injection system automatically keeps it running at maximum
output and fuel efficiency for the conditions.

Apex SE: Trail Riding on Air
The all-new Apex SE is the industry’s first all-air-suspension trail sled.
We put technology first used in the award-winning 2010 FX Nytro MTX SE
models into the most technologically advanced snowmobile on the market.
Like its mountain sled cousin, the Apex SE uses Fox® FLOAT™ 2 shocks on
the front suspension and then incorporates a more application-specific rear
shock design for the high mileage hero: the Fox Mega FLOAT!
The front suspension’s FLOAT 2 shocks feature a negative spring that
significantly reduces the stiction found on other air shock designs. Air
suspension normally needs high pressures to support sled and rider, but
this can make the shock stiff when it starts its compression stroke. The
negative spring design aids in the stroke’s initial movement. This means a
more comfortable ride at slower speeds and over bumps.
The Yamaha-exclusive Fox Mega FLOAT mounted on the Mono Shock®
II 128 rear has the same internal design concept as the front shocks.
However, the Mega FLOAT has more than twice the air volume of the FLOAT
2 shocks to reduce heat accumulation and maintain a lower air pressure for
a plush initial stroke.
Due to the nature of the air spring design, the Apex SE delivers a
progressive spring rate, which means great comfort over smaller bumps and
increasing anti-bottoming protection when the trails get rougher.
The air pressure on both these front and rear suspensions can be
adjusted with a special hand pump provided with the sled. Because these
air shocks have no coil springs, the two front shocks and the rear shock
together account for a weight reduction of 10 pounds (4.5 kg) compared
to the base model Apex. With less unsprung weight, the Apex SE gets a
performance boost and unmatched suspension tracking over moguls.

The Mono Shock RA II rear suspension delivers excellent comfort and trail handling. The unique design soaks up the chatter like it’s

preference. The evolved design features convenience items like a forward-facing track tensioner bolt and sealed needle bearings.

The Dual Shock CK 144 is the heart of the XTX cross-country sleds. The unique suspension design features an aggressive rear rail
tip up that give the sled the footprint of a 121-inch trail sled on hardpack, but bridges the bumps like a 136-inch sled, and delivers the
flotation footprint of a 144-inch sled in untracked snow. The clicker shock allows you to adjust the compression damping rate with the turn
of a knob.

The award-winning ProMountain Air, in either 162- or 153-inch configuration, is a true mountain rear suspension. Engineering
priority targeted both powder performance and light weight. The lightweight, machined rail design delivers a shallow
18-degree approach angle to get you up on top of the powder quickly. Lightweight Fox FLOAT 2 shocks eliminate the need for
heavy steel springs. And, with ice scratchers, idler wheels are eliminated for even more weight savings.

Electric Power Steering – Industry-first EPS
system is velocity sensitive, delivering maximum
assist up to 35 mph, and gradually tapering off
from there. You’ll love the EPS system because it
makes the steering light.
New Skis – New skis have great cornering agility
and work in tandem with the EPS to reduce
hunting and darting.
New Engine – The physical casting of the engine
remains the same, but the valve timing, intake
and exhaust tracts, airbox and exhaust pipes are
all recalibrated for optimum midrange torque
output as well as an overall top end gain.
EXUP Valve – Yamaha-exclusive EXUP valve
technology controls the exhaust pressure waves
for optimum intake and exhaust efficiency, delivering unmatched overall performance with more

New Windshield – The new windshield and side
deflector design, developed using computer
modeling, provides maximum wind protection
with minimum aerodynamic drag and swirl-in.
15 x 128 x 1.25-inch Camoplast® Ripsaw™ – The
new 128-inch track length is longer to harness
the new Apex’s huge midrange torque for great
acceleration. The track has an open design to
accept extrovert drivers.
15mm Trail – The new 15mm trail offset on the
ski mount helps minimize inside ski lift due
to centrifugal force during turns. This offset
also helps the new Apex achieve its amazingly
smooth handling, including its excellent straight
line performance.
Engine Braking Reduction System – The EBRS
bypass valve in the fuel injection system allows
the sled to freewheel for a coasting feeling when
you let off the throttle.
Rigid Steering Gate – The new steering gate has
a rigid single-piece construction designed to
handle the additional forces exerted by the new
EPS system. The gate is made using Yamaha’s
exclusive lightweight, yet rugged CF die-cast
manufacturing process.
New Fuel Injector Design – The distance
between the throttle valve and intake valve has
been shortened for optimum fuel delivery. The
spray is aimed directly at the intake valve skirt
for maximum efficiency and performance. The
result? Simply unmatched throttle response.
Fox Mega FLOAT Shock (SE Model) –The Fox
Mega FLOAT rear shock has more than twice the
air volume of the front shocks, for excellent fade
resistance. Like the FLOAT 2 shocks, the Mega
FLOAT has a negative spring design to make the
start of the shock’s stroke smooth (less “stiction”) for a very compliant ride.

The Dual Shock Pro 46 rear suspension features competition-reinforced

A great touring machine like this has the ability to travel effortlessly
from destination to destination while keeping all the gear stowed and
riders comfortable. Yamaha offers a variety of Premium luggage including
windshield bags, tank bags, and saddlebags. However, sometimes you just
need more capacity. For those times we offer the Venture luggage rack
(and adaptor plate for use on the Venture GT) to carry additional luggage,
equipment, and tools. Its generous capacity makes hauling your stuff a
snap. If you need to keep your gear dry there is also a waterproof gear
bag that is completely up to the task. If you still need more utility carry
capacity, a tow bumper is available for use in pulling a sled.
The Venture Lite is one of snowmobile touring’s greatest values. Loaded
with such long-range riding amenities as the tall windshield, heated
passenger grips, roomy passenger seat, and large cargo rack, this sled is a
great choice for hitting the trail on a multi-day tour.
Our Genesis 2-cylinder engine is as reliable as they come, delivering
dependable power for solo or 2-up riding. The engine’s advanced fuel
injection system automatically keeps it running at optimum output and
fuel efficiency for the conditions so you never have to fuss over calibration.
Electric start and push-button reverse give you hassle-free, easy operation.
The Venture Lite is loaded with the premium ProComfort 144 rear
suspension. It features a set of fiberglass overload springs, which lets you
easily set the ride for one person or two. The dual A-arm front suspension is
outfitted with a pair of gas cell shocks for comfort as well.

The RS Viking Professional is one of the top-selling multi-purpose sleds
in the world! Its legendary reliability and work-minded utility component
package get the job done day in and day out.
Powered by the ultra-reliable carbureted Genesis 3-cylinder engine,
the Viking has plenty of grunt to get the job done every day. Electric start
makes getting the Viking started in the morning super simple. Its Genesis
4-stroke engine is gas-and-go simple. There’s no need to pack injector oil
into the back country.
Engine maintenance on a Yamaha 4-stroke is super simple, as well –
change the oil every 2500 miles and the filter every 12,000 miles after the
initial break-in period… and the valves aren’t even due for an inspection
until 25,000 miles.
Features like the huge 20 x 156 x 1.25-inch track and 3-speed
transmission make easy work of breaking through fresh snow and towing.
The articulated rail on the rear suspension helps keep the Viking from
trenching in when backing up in fresh snow.
