Any course not listed in this agreement but that is designated as CSU or UC transferable in the Pierce College catalog will transfer to APU as unit credit
only. Only courses where a grade of C- or above has been earned will be considered for transfer credit. APU will give credit for no more than 70 units of
community college work. No course from a community college can transfer to meet an APU upper-division course requirement. Please see APU’s

A first semester composition course often titled “Freshman Composition” or “College Composition.”
Public speaking. Must contain at least 3 individual public speeches. Cannot be taken as an online or hybrid course.
Interpersonal or Small Group Communication will not meet this requirement.
Lecture course that must emphasize stress, diet, nutrition, communicable and chronic diseases, alcohol and drug
abuse, lifestyles, childbirth, physical fitness, and environmental health.
Any physical activity course with a cardio component and instruction in fitness principles.
One full academic year (2 semesters or 3 quarters) of the same foreign language are required. High School
courses taken do not waive this requirement. Must be college level. Cannot be taken as an online course unless
the Department of Modern Languages’ Transfer Verification Test is successfully completed and passed for the
language of study. Transfer Verification Tests must be taken prior to a student’s final semester. Languages
available for testing are Spanish, French, Italian, German, Chinese, Japanese, and American Sign Language. Please
contact the Department of Modern Languages for more information.
Course must be from the Math department and have a pre-requisite of Intermediate Algebra.
A broad, survey course in Art or Music. Examples: Introduction to Art, Art History, Art Appreciation, Music
Fundamentals, History of Music, or Music Appreciation.
Look for a world or U.S. History course (usually split into 2 historical time periods). Also Introduction to
Government and Introduction to Humanities courses.
Introduction to Philosophy - covering the beginnings of philosophical thought, including Plato, Descartes,
Aristotle…etc. Ethics, Logic, and/or Critical Thinking usually will not meet this requirement.
Introduction to Sociology, General Psychology, or Human Growth and Development (course work must include
entire life span).
An Introduction to Literature, exploring literary genres of poetry, fiction, and drama or Introduction to World
Literature or Introduction to American Literature. We will not accept Critical Thinking courses or Advanced
Composition courses. Must not be a writing course, but a broad survey of literature.
Lecture and Lab component required. Any basic course in the life or physical sciences. Fundamentals of Biology,
General Biology, Fundamentals of Chemistry, General Chemistry, Introduction to Astronomy, Physical
Geology/Geography, Fundamentals of Physics, General Physics, Oceanography, Zoology, Marine Biology. Cannot
be taken as an online course.

IGETC/CSU GE
APU accepts the completed IGETC or CSU GE certification as fulfilling the lower-division APU General Education program requirements. However, the student must complete
these provisions as part of or in addition to their completed IGETC or CSU GE certification.



Students will need to meet the foreign language requirement of 2 semesters of the same language at the college level.
Students will need to meet the Health Education and Fitness for Life requirements.
Students will need to complete a math course from the Department of Mathematics and Physics with at least a prerequisite of Intermediate Algebra.

All APU students are required to complete the requisite number of “God’s Word and the Christian Response” and upper-division General Education courses. In the cases of
both the IGETC and CSU GE, the certification must be complete, and the certification must be obtained from the respective community college before the student matriculates
to APU. Students who do not receive full certification will be evaluated by standard course-to-course articulation and will follow the APU General Education program.
