It is recommended that candidates become familiar with the contents of the data booklet through use in undertaking Units of these Courses, including Physics Units at Access 3. The range of data contained in the booklet has been limited to syllabus content which may be assessed through written examination papers. This data should be supplemented by other resource material as necessary during the course, eg by using data sheets. However, should any additional information (or data not included in this booklet) be required in an examination, it will be included in the examination paper. Additional relationships, which candidates may find useful, are given on page 8. A periodic table of elements is included on page 9. From the variety of data offered in this booklet, candidates will be expected to demonstrate the ability to select an appropriate: ◆ ◆ ◆ formula relationship element or data pertaining to an element 1 Relationships required for Access 3 and/or Intermediate 1 Physics 5HODWLRQVKLSVUHTXLUHGIRU$FFHVVDQGRU,QWHUPHGLDWH3K\VLFV UHVLVWDQFH = FXUUHQW = VSHHG = YROWDJH FXUUHQW SRZHU YROWDJH GLVWDQFH WLPH YROWDJHJDLQ = RXWSXWYROWDJH LQSXWYROWDJH ZHLJKW = × PDVV GLVWDQFH DYHUDJHVSHHG = WLPH 2 Relationships required for Standard Grade and/or Intermediate 2 Physics 5HODWLRQVKLSVUHTXLUHGIRU6WDQGDUG*UDGHDQGRU,QWHUPHGLDWH3K\VLFV = + + 57 5 5 G = YW V= YW D= æ 5 ö ÷÷9V 9 = çç 5 + 5 è ø ∆Y W 9 5 = 9 5 Y −X D= W 3 = ,9 : =PJ 3 = , 5 ) =PD S=PY 3= ( Z =)G 9 5 ( S =PJK ,S Q V 9V = = QS 9S ,V (N = PY 9 JDLQ = 9R 9L 3JDLQ = 3R 3L ( 3= W SHUFHQWDJHHIILFLHQF\ = XVHIXO(R × (L SHUFHQWDJHHIILFLHQF\ = XVHIXO3R × 3L ( K =FP∆7 Y = Iλ 3= I $= 1 W '= ( P ( K =PO 4 = ,W 9 = ,5 + = 'Z5 57 = 5 + 5 + 3 5HODWLRQVKLSVUHTXLUHGIRU+LJKHU3K\VLFV Relationships required for Higher D= Physics 5 5 = 5 5 ∆Y W Y = X + DW 9 = ,5 V = XW + DW 3 = ,9 = , 5 = Y = X + DV V= (X + Y )W ) =PD ( Z =)G ( S =PJK (N = PY ( 3= W S=PY 9 SHDN = 9UPV , SHDN = , UPV &= 4 9 ( = 49 = &9 = 9R = 9 − 9 7= 39 = FRQVWDQW 7 : = 49 ( = 9 + ,U Σ ( = Σ ,5 57 = 5 + 5 + = + + 57 5 5 5I 5 I SDWKGLIIHUHQFH = ( Q + ) λ G VLQ θ = Qλ Q= VLQ θ VLQ θ VLQ θ λ Y = = VLQ θ λ Y VLQ θ F = ,= 4 4 & SDWKGLIIHUHQFH=Qλ ) 3= $ 3 = ρJK 5I 9R =− 9 5 )W = PY − PX P ρ= 9 9 5 N G Q 5HODWLRQVKLSVUHTXLUHGIRU+LJKHU3K\VLFV Relationships required for Higher Physics ( = KI , = 1KI (N = KI − KI : − : = KI ( = PF $= 1 W '= ( P + = 'Z5 + +& = W UDQGRPXQFHUWDLQW\ = PD[YDOXH − PLQYDOXH QXPEHURI YDOXHV 5 5HODWLRQVKLSVUHTXLUHGIRU$GYDQFHG+LJKHU3K\VLFV Relationships required for Advanced Higher GY G V D= = GW GW Y = X + DW / = ,ω (URW = ,ω )= Y = X + DV 9 =− PR Y − F Y= *P U *P U ω = ʌI ( = PF G\ = −ω \ GW Gθ ω= GW Gω G θ = α= GW GW ω = ω R + αW θ = ωR W + αW ω = ωR + αθ \ = $ FRV ωW RU \ = $ VLQ ωW Y = Uω ($ Y = ±ω ) − \ ( ( S = Pω \ K S PYU = DW = Uα QK π Y DU = = Uω U )= 44 πε R U PY )= = PUω U (= 4 πε R U 7 = )U 9= 4 πε R U 7 = ,α ) = 4( / = PYU = PU ω ) (N = Pω $ − \ λ= V = Uθ 6 *PP U V = XW + DW P= Physics 5HODWLRQVKLSVUHTXLUHGIRU$GYDQFHG+LJKHU3K\VLFV Relationships required for Advanced Higher Physics 9 = (G RSWLFDO SDWKGLIIHUHQFH=Pλ ) = ,O% VLQ θ RSWLFDO SDWKGLIIHUHQFH = ( P + ) λ µR , πU ∆[ = ) µ R , , = O πU G= %= λ Q ) = TY% ∆[ = ε = − / G, GW λO G λ' G Q = WDQ L S ( = /, [ö æ \ = $ VLQ πç IW − ÷ λø è ∆; = ∆< + ∆= ö ÷÷ ø ∆P = P − P (Q − ) æ Y ± YR ö I = IV ç ÷ è Y ø ∆F = F − F (Q − ) æ Y I = I V çç è Y ± YV Φ= ∆; æ ∆< ö æ ∆= ö = ç ÷ +ç ÷ ; è < ø è = ø ʌ[ λ 7 $GGLWLRQDOUHODWLRQVKLSV Additional relationships Circle &LUFOH FLUFXPIHUHQFH = π U I [ I [ DUHD = π U VLQ D[ D FRV D[ FRV D[ − D VLQ D[ 6SKHUH Sphere DUHD = πU YROXPH = πU 7ULJRQRPHWU\ Trigonometry RSSRVLWH VLQ θ = K\SRWHQXVH DGMDFHQW FRVθ = K\SRWHQXVH WDQ θ = RSSRVLWH DGMDFHQW VLQ θ + FRV θ = Moment of inertia 0RPHQWRILQHUWLD SRLQWPDVV , = PU URGDERXWFHQWUH , = PO URGDERXWHQG , = PO GLVFDERXWFHQWUH , = PU VSKHUHDERXWFHQWUH , = PU 8 7DEOHRIVWDQGDUGGHULYDWLYHV 7DEOHRIVWDQGDUGLQWHJUDOV I [ ò I [G[ VLQ D[ − FRV D[ + & D FRV D[ VLQ D[ + & D 9
