RAWLS COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION LOWER DIVISION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE B ACHELOR OF BUSINESS A DMINISTRATION (BBA) D EGREE NMJC Equivalencies Shaded and in Parentheses All students who wish to major in Business are classified as pre-business majors (COBA designation) until completion of the Lower Division Business Core with grades of C or higher, and attainment of a minimum 2.75 adjusted Texas Tech GPA (2.00 for catalog editions 1999-2000 and earlier and 2.5 for catalogs 2000-2002). Upon attainment of the minimum requirements, application must be made to the Undergraduate Services Center for a specific Business major. Admission to the pre-business major (the Lower Division COBA designation) does not assure admission to any Upper Division major in the Rawls College of Business. LOWER DIVISION BUSINESS CORE 31 HOURS – GRADES OF C OR HIGHER ARE REQUIRED: BA 1101 ENGL 1301 Fundamentals of Business Professionalism. Prerequisite: Freshmen only and 2.75 GPA. (waived for transfer students who are at least sophomores — complete at least one extra elective hour instead) Essentials of College Rhetoric. Prerequisite: Minimum SATV/370 or ACTV/16 or ENGL 0301. ENGL 0301 will not be used in the degree program. (EN 113) ENGL 1302 Advanced College Rhetoric. Prerequisite: ENGL 1301. (EN 123) MATH 1330* Introductory Mathematical Analysis. Prerequisite: Satisfactory score on the Mathematics Placement Exam (MPE) or a grade of A or B in MATH 0302. Students who are required to take MATH 0301 must earn a grade of A or B before taking MATH 0302. (MA 113D) MATH 1331* Introductory Mathematical Analysis. Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in MATH 1330 or 1430. (MA 123D) ACCT 2300 Financial Accounting. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing, completion of any college-level Math, 2.75 adjusted GPA. (AC 114) ACCT 2301 Managerial Accounting. Prerequisite: ACCT 2300, and 2.75 adjusted GPA (AC 124) ISQS 2340 Introduction to Computer Systems in Business. Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in any college-level Math and 2.75 adjusted GPA. (CS 123A) MATH 2345 Introduction to Statistics With Applications to Business (formerly ISQS 2345). Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in any college-level Math. (BU 233) ECO 2301 Principles of Economics I. (Microeconomics). (EC 223) ECO 2302 Principles of Economics II. (Macroeconomics). Per Department – ECO 2301 is highly recommended before ECO 2302. (EC 213) * A Math course must be taken each enrollment until the Math requirement is finished. OTHER FRESHMAN AND SOPHOMORE REQUIRED COURSES 32 HOURS – GRADES OF D OR HIGHER ARE REQUIRED: HIST 2300 History of the United States to 1877. Any other U.S. History course may be substituted for HIST 2300. (HI 113) HIST 2301 POLS 1301 History of the United States since 1877. Any other U.S. History course may be substituted for HIST 2301. (HI 123) American Government, Organization. (GO 213) POLS 2302 American Public Policy. Completion of POLS 1301 is strongly recommended. (No Equivalent) MULTICULTURAL COURSE Three semester hours chosen from University’s multicultural requirement. (Select from: AG 113B; AN 123; AR 113; ED 213; GG 113; RE 113; SO 233. NOTE: AR 113 will satisfy the visual/performing arts as well as the multicultural requirement. RE 113 will satisfy the humanities as well as the multicultural requirement. If AR 113 or RE 113 is used to satisfy two requirements, the student will need three more hours of free electives) VISUAL and PERFORMING ARTS (Select from: AR 113 or any studio art except photography; DR 113, 133W; MU 112C/112E, 213, ensembles, piano, voice) Three semester hours chosen from Core Curriculum, Category F. HUMANITIES Three semester hours chosen from Core Curriculum, Category E. (Select from: EN— soph. literature; PI 213; RE 113; SP— See foreign language requirement) NOTE: The foreign language requirement for International Business majors fulfills the humanities. LAB SCIENCETwo courses (8 hours) chosen from Core Curriculum, Category C. The science lecture and the corresponding lab must be taken at the same time. The two science courses can be in different fields, such as Biology and Geology. (Select from: AG 124B; BI 114, 124, 214A; CH 114, 114A, 124A; GE 114, 124; PH 114, 114A, 124, 214, 224) NOTE: Petroleum Land Management majors must take GEOL 1303 & 1101 (GE 114) or GEOG 1401 for one of the lab science requirements. ELECTIVES Three hours of non-BA/non-ECO electives. This is the only requirement on this page that may be taken pass/fail with the following exceptions: Exceptions: Management Information Systems majors take ISQS 2341(a 2.750 adjusted GPA is required); a grade of A or B must be earned. The non-BA / non ECO elective is taken during upper division. International Business majors must take three semesters of foreign language in the same language. (SP 113, 123, & 213) PLM majors take ENCO 2301 (a 2.75 adjusted GPA) is required. Foreign Language Requirement: Two semesters of one foreign language are required unless two units of a single foreign language were completed at the high school level and a high school transcript is supplied. These courses can be used to satisfy electives but not a Humanities requirement.
