Internal Auditing
Theory and practice of internal auditing, including financial, operational,
performance and compliance audits, and auditing of computer-based systems.
This course is intended for accounting majors pursuing professional careers in
fields other than public accounting and is an elective for non-accounting,
business majors.

Homework: Project should be worked as completely as possible prior to the
class period they are due. Questions regarding projects, homework, or
components of the class in general, should be posted on the discussion board of
CougarVIEW. The Instructor will post responses there as well. Feel free to ask
questions during class to clarify concepts that are unclear to you.
Team Project participation will be required from each student. The selection of
Team members will take place during the first class meeting, and the teams will
then remain intact for the semester. Depending on the number of students in the
class, each team will ideally have 2-3 members. Each Team member will earn
an individual grade on the Oral Presentation. Each person is expected to: speak
for 10 minutes; include both project information and other research related to the
project; include visual aids as appropriate. (Additional grading criteria will be
discussed in class). An Intra-team Project Evaluation will be completed by each
student regarding each of their Team members and will be submitted,
confidentially and in writing, to the Instructor. (Forms will be provided by the
Instructor.)
The course grade will be based on a 10-pt. scale of the percentage of the points

internal auditing.

apply to the field of internal auditing.
4. Demonstrate an understanding of the application of Internal Controls as they
apply to an Internal Auditing system.
5. Demonstrate an understanding of how an audit strategy is achieved via audit

POLICIES AND CONDUCT OF COURSE
Students are expected to comply with the provisions of Section III, "Student
Academic integrity:
Responsibilities," of the Columbus State University Student Handbook. This
specifically includes the sections on "Academic Irregularity," and "Conduct
Irregularity." In particular, the Columbus State University Student Handbook
states:
No student shall give or receive assistance in the preparation of any
assignment, essay, laboratory report, or examination to be submitted as a
requirement for any academic course in such a way that the submitted
work can no longer be considered the personal effort of the student
submitting the work.
Attendance will be taken in class. A seating chart will be prepared the first

other class days, attendance will be taken.
A student may miss 2 classes without being penalized. After missing 2
classes, points will be deducted from the student’s class participation
grade. The maximum cuts for this class is 7.
You are prohibited from bringing activated electronic devices to class which
may disturb the class. This includes, but is not limited to, pagers, cell phones,
noisy calculators, and alarm watches. A violation of this policy may result in
points being deducted from your grade.
Examinations may include problems, discussion questions, and/or "objective"
Examinations:
(multiple choice, etc) questions. Make-up exams will be permitted only if caused
by illness or by verifiable, job-related circumstances, and if approved in advance.
Proper written documentation must be presented from the student in a timely
manner for a Make-up exam to be granted. Make-up exams will only be given
during the final exam period.
UNLESS SPECIFICALLY AUTHORIZED, THE USE OF REFERENCE
MATERIALS OR ASSISTANCE FROM OTHER PERSONS IS NOT
PERMITTED DURING EXAMINATIONS. You may NOT leave the classroom
and return during an exam, and you may NOT use graphing or cell phone

calculators. You may not wear a hat with a brim during exams.
As soon as exams are graded, the grades will be posted on CougarVIEW
(VISTA), but grades will not be given out over the phone or to anyone other than
the student.

Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (P.L. 933-112 Section 504) and Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA) that may require that student to need assistance attaining
accessibility to instructional content to meet course requirements, it is
recommended that the student contact the Office of Disability Services in the

The Office of Disability Services can assist the student and the instructor in
formulating a reasonable accommodation plan and provide support in developing

A grade of "W" will be assigned for withdrawal forms submitted to the Registrar
by the "W" Grade Deadline unless a grade of "WF" has already been assigned by
the instructor for excessive absence. A grade of "WF" will be assigned for
withdrawal forms submitted to the Registrar after the deadline noted above.
Graded examinations will be kept on file no longer than one semester following
the completion of the current semester. Any requests for grade reconsideration
or grade appeals must be made within this time period.
