Advanced Placement class?
If not 9th grade…why not 11th or 12th?
AP in the Social Studies
You can expose yourself to a college experience.
You could save some serious $$$.
You get a weighted grade. (i.e. B=4.0 on GPA)
You have a bunch of options challenge yourself,
but not overwhelm yourself.
What should you take for 9th grade?
Ask yourself these questions…
– History? Geography? Social Sciences? All of them?
– EXPLORE Reading is an indicator of ability to get information on own
through reading.
– The academic habits you establish as a Freshman are the foundation
for future schooling.

• Represents full year class that nationwide many students
take as 10th or 12th.
• Multiple choice and essays on AP exam. (3+ hours long)
• Good stepping stone for AP US History.

• We are looking for:

• Represents 1 semester of college (but we have a full year).
• Great “First AP Class”.
• Nationwide, most students take the exam as 9th graders.
• Only multiple choice and short essays on AP exam (2+hrs).
Honors World History

Strong Writer
Can handle a 12th grade textbook
• Emphasis on critical thinking and making
connections that will help prepare for AP World
History or AP European History as a Sophomore.
• Weighted grade but no AP exam preparation.
World Geography
Physical and Cultural Geography of Africa,
Asia, Russia, and Australia.
(All the areas they didn’t cover in 7th grade.)
• What we are looking for:
– College Prep Students who read near or slightly above
grade level.
– Writing abilities that may require assistance with
organization and refinement.
– Students who enjoy studying current events.
There are many paths to the same destination!
Choose yours…but choose wisely!
It is VERY difficult to change levels once we start!
