Copacino+Fujikado was the big winner at the 2008 RACIE Awards—a national creative competition held this month at the Hilton Hotel in Chicago. The Seattle agency took home six awards, including Best Of Show for its multi-media campaign for the Seattle Aquarium. The RACIE awards are capstone of a three-day conference sponsored by the Retail Advertising & Marketing Association. The Seattle Aquarium won three gold awards and one bronze—including “Best of the Best” honors as Best Of Show, based on a live, electronic vote by the more than 500 attendees at the awards gala. Copacino+Fujikado also garnered a gold medal for a radio campaign for Recreation Equipment Inc. (REI) and a bronze medal for a magazine ad for the Seattle Mariners Team Stores. The Seattle Aquarium campaign features Leonard, an ordinary goldfish, who wants to swim with the exotic species in the Seattle Aquarium. The multi-media campaign includes outdoor, radio and television ads, a MySpace page and a website. The RACIE Awards is a spirited creative competition among some of the nation’s largest retailers. Other winners included Best Buy, PetSmart, McDonald’s, Target, Lord & Taylor, Hallmark and Saks Fifth Avenue. “We’re delighted at our success in this year’s show,” says C+F co-founder Betti Fujikado. “It demonstrates that we have the creative capabilities to compete with the biggest brands in the country.” The Retail Advertising & Marketing Association, a division of the National Retail Federation, is a trade association of over 1,500 retail marketing and advertising executives. Copacino+Fujikado is a $5.7 million dollar agency that handles a range of clients including Safeco Insurance, The Seattle Mariners, Nordstrom, Seattle Children’s Hospital and Symetra Financial.
