Purpose of the Course:
Government 2302 is one of two courses designed to introduce students to the study of
government in the United States at the national, state, and local levels. GOVT 2302 is a survey of
the American system of government and includes a study of the fundamental principles of
political science, and the study of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government
at both the national and state levels, and analyzes the contemporary policies we have in use today.
Additionally, the course will examine our national and Texas economic and regulatory policy,
social policy, civil liberties and civil rights policy as well as our foreign policy. Government 2301
and 2302 are fully transferable to other colleges and universities, and together meet the legislative
requirement for government.
CLASS SCHEDULE/CALENDAR
Note: This schedule is subject to change based on the pace of in-class lectures. At certain points in time we
may find ourselves falling behind or moving a little ahead during the semester. I will do my best to adhere
to this schedule, and if any changes or adjustments need to be made I will give the students as much
advance notice as possible. Additionally we are in Houston and this is Hurricane Season so our schedule
could also be changed due to campus closures and/or inclement weather. Check the following url
http//www.hccs.edu/portal/site/hcc
Please come to class prepared which means that you have read any and all assignments
before the class lecture. Preparedness also means that you have brought pen/pencil and
paper to class. Some of my pop-quizzes are open book so you should also consider bringing
your book each week as well.
