SCIENCE 10

Welcome to Science 10! This course combines life science, earth science and physical science through three major themes.

This is an experiential course so there will be a lot of lab work. This will require data collection, analysis, and interpretation of results. You will be given a set amount of time to complete these activities, and will often be working with others.

You will need to participate and be open to new ideas. Some of these activities we will be doing will be formative, and others summative. What this means is that some activities will help us to understand and learn concepts.

These assignments will be assessed, HOWEVER you will not get a ―grade‖.

We will use these assignments to determine what we are doing well, and what we need to work on a little harder.

Sometimes you will have assignments or tests which are ―Summative‖ These evaluations will happen AFTER we have learned and/or practiced concepts, and will be used to determine your ―grade‖. You will be made aware when activities are summative and when they are formative.

My expectations for you are as follows:

 Coming to class ready to learn (and on time!)

 Showing respect for yourself, and others

Using manipulatives and technology in the application of concepts

Working with others and independently

Regular attendance and completion of assignments

Asking for assistance in class, and out of class (by arrangement)
