Crabby Joe’s & Coffee Culture coming to Angus!
L
uc and Cindy Alarie are pleased to announce that it’s true, they are bringing a
Crabby Joe’s restaurant to town! By this time next year, the face of Mill Street will
dramatically change with the addition of a beautiful new building that will house
both a Crabby Joe’s and a Coffee Culture.
The Alaries will be the owner operator of the Crabby Joe’s, but are quick to point out that
this does not mean they are leaving the real estate business. “We have been receiving calls,
and hearing rumours that people are saying we are getting out of Real Estate,” says Cindy
Alarie, “and this is simply not true. It’s not until next year that I will, understandably, have
to give more attention to the restaurant but I will still keep my licence and, as always, be

Yushinkai Karate Team
n Sunday, March 24, a small group of determined
local athletes competed in the International
Meibukan Goju-ryu Karate Championships hosted by the Elora, Ontario branch dojo (gym). This event was
a traditional tournament of Karate-do consisting of "Open
Hand Kata", "Team Kata" and "Weapons Kata". Being a traditional tournament, there was no free-style sparring.
The Karate Dojo, located at 211 Mill Street in Angus,
received an invitation for the event only weeks prior to the
competition. Upon receiving the invitation, owner / operators Steve and Anna Lynch accepted the invite and re-established the infamous "Yushinkai Karate Team". Although
there wasn't much time to prepare, the group was assembled, consisted of six junior members of the dojo between
the ages of 5 and 12 years of age. Training for the event
promptly began.

there for our clients whenever they call.”
Luc points out that he will continue to be in real estate full time, along with the other
members of their team. “I will not be involved in the actual day-to-day operation of the
restaurant,” he says. “This is Cindy’s baby, and I’m very proud of her for taking on this project that is going to bring so much to this community”.
Crabby Joes’ will employ approximately 55 people, with some being full time managers.
“I love real estate too much to give it up,” Cindy says, "this just happens to be something
else I’m passionate about and think it will greatly benefit our area".
Young) put a great amount of effort and extra training
time to prepare for this event. This was a first time experience for the Junior Team as each had only formally
began their training just shy of 6 months! Practice, practice and yet more practice grounded the new athletes
with all the necessary essentials for the competitive / athletic arena.
The Karate Dojo is very pleased to report that our
community was represented very well by these amazing
children / athletes bringing home 1 Gold Medal, 4 Silver
Medals and 3 Bronze Medals. Way to go!
The Karate Dojo offers instruction to all ages starting
at 4 years of age in the traditional art of Karate-do.
Instruction is provided by highly ranked and certified
instructors trained in Okinawa Japan, the birthplace of
Karate. We also offer Yoga and have a highly certified
Yogi on site. Additional programs such as private and
group session are available upon request. We also host

Canadian Forces Base Borden
Request for Proposal for two (2)
Mini-vans, SUVs or equivalent
Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Borden and the Personnel Support Programs
(PSP) division, responsible for morale and welfare, are offering the surrounding
business community the opportunity to promote and associate their business within the Canadian Forces Community. The PSP Corporate Services Program offers
corporate clients a variety of ways to link their business with CFB Borden and the
CF community. Specialized advertising within base properties, and at CFB
Borden events, as well as sponsorship and donation opportunities are just a few
examples of these links. In order to help ensure the success of our program, CFB
Borden is accepting proposals from companies who are capable of providing two
(2) new or recent mini-vans, SUVs or equivalent, for a three year contract.
Your vehicle will play an important role in promoting our Corporate Services
Program. As such, your vehicle will be featured all over the Base, and at key
events throughout the greater community and wherever Borden is displayed. For
example, the biannual Canadian Forces Day and Air Show traditionally attracts
over thirty thousand attendees over a two day span event. Borden employs
approximately 2000 military members and approximately 1500 civilians. Each
year we train approximately 15,000 soldiers, sailors, airmen and women in a multitude of occupations serving in domestic and international operations. At any
given time, between 2500 and 4000 students are on the ground. Your company
will receive optimal exposure.
It is expected that bidding companies will provide two (2) new or recent minivans, SUVs or equivalent. Dealerships/Rental companies will be considered. Bids
must also state what type of vehicles they are willing to offer. Vehicles must be
capable of being licensed as per the Ontario Traffic Act. Any questions should be
directed to Gilles Mercier, Corporate Services Coordinator at 705-424-1200
extension 1352 or email: Gilles.Mercier3@forces.gc.ca
Companies selected for further consideration will be contacted by Gilles
Mercier in order to discuss the details of the Sponsorship Agreement.
Deadline for submission of bids is 15 May 2013. All bids shall be 500 words
or less and must be submitted electronically via email to:

trente mille visiteurs viennent habituellement

CFB Kingston’s time to shine
BY CHRISTOPHER PARRY
PSP - Sports Intern
CFB Kingston won a defensive match against CFB
Halifax to win the 2013 CF National Women’s Hockey
Championship with a score of 3-2. The final game between
both sides was much anticipated due to an incredible offensive game to start the round-robin game which saw CFB
Halifax victorious over CFB Kingston with a score of 5 -2.
The first period saw a battle of defences as both teams
played a very defensive style of hockey. CFB Kingston
opened up the scoring with a beautiful breakaway finished
of by #13 Kimberly Archibald. CFB Halifax’s #15 Kirsten
Lindstol equalized the game before the end of the first with
a puck narrowly beating CFB Kingston’s goaltender #30
Julie Isabelle. Score after the first period CFB Kingston 1 1 CFB Halifax.
The second period saw CFB Halifax control the beginning of the period and eventually breaking through and taking the lead with #6 Emilie Clairoux scoring the goal. CFB
Kingston did not take long before equalizing the game with
#16 Nicole Barrett scoring to level the game at two goals a
piece. Score after the second period CFB Kingston 2 – 2
CFB Halifax.
The third period was an open ice match with both teams
controlling equal amount of time in the offensive zone. CFB
Kingston’s #17 Isabelle Langevin scored the third goal for
the visiting team to put them ahead by a goal. That was all
CFB Kingston needed as the stellar defence and impeccable
goaltending shut the door on an impressive CFB Halifax
team. The final score CFB Kingston 3 – 2 CFB Halifax.
The game MVP was #16 Sgt Nicole Barrett of CFB
Kingston.
The tournament MVP was #20 Catherine Barnes of CFB
Kingston.
offensive.

Citoyen Borden Citizen
cpl Kirk Krietzer is a man on
a mission to battle hunger.
Inspired by the David Busby
Street Centre during his tenure as a sponsored employee for the United Way, Mcpl
Kreitzer took it upon himself to establish
Operation UNIFORM LUNCH.
The initial inspiration to create this
Operation was following a visit to the
David Busby Centre where Mcpl Kreitzer
learned about businesses in Barrie who
organized lunches for the Centre’s
patrons. Mcpl Kreitzer admired this idea
and sought to enhance this initiative, but
with more of a “service flair” to it. He
then contacted the Barrie Police, Fire and
Paramedic departments in the hopes of
joining forces for this important cause.
They were interested.
With efforts from friends and family, a
donation from the Barrie Police
Department, along with a boot drive and
the sale of pizza slices through the Wing
and Base, $1965 was raised to purchase
lunches handed out on April 2, 2013.
“It was a wonderful day,” commented
Mcpl Kreitzer. “The Centre was buzzing
with excitement. The patrons were flabbergasted by the amount of food inside the
boxed lunches.”
Op UNIFORMED LUNCH is not over
yet though, the Barrie Fire Department
will be hosting their lunch on April 18 and
the Barrie Paramedic Services following
suit on April 30.

a réussi à recueillir 1 965 $.

5, a monument was unveiled as
the most recent addition to
CFB Borden’s museum. The
monument, originally a focal
point in the Mr.Sub restaurant
in Angus, ON, holds the
names, pictures and memories
of the 158 soldiers who gave
the ultimate sacrifice for
Canada and the Canadian
Forces during the Afghanistan
mission.
Mcpl Scott Dickson and his
wife Mandy Dickson came up
with the idea to memorialize
the soldiers, with an emphasis
on putting faces to the names
of the fallen soldiers in their
store.
Mcpl Dickson emphasized
the need to attach personalities
to these men and women,
many of whom he had toured
with and knew personally,
including his cousin.
After the Mr. Sub location
had been sold to new owners,
the monument needed a new
home. Upon getting word of
this need, CWO Greeley
sprung into action with his
usual vigor, and, within hours,
had secured a prominent spot
in the museum for all visitors
to regard and pay their
respects.

Bill Forsyth got his Real Estate License and became a full-time
Realtor in 1988. Bill was raised in Angus, ON and has lived in
Essa Township since 1966.
As a member of a military family he spent his early childhood
being moved from Base to Base, with Ottawa, Germany and
Cobourg among the stops. This has helped him to understand
some of the intricacies involved in the moving of family members, and their furniture and effects.
He met and married his wife J.J. Forsyth over 30 years ago.
Bill has been a full-time real estate professional for the past 22
years and an active member on both the Toronto and Barrie
Real Estate Boards. J.J. has had her Real Estate license for over
15 years and helps with the overall management of the company.
Their daughter Jenna has joined the family business and
taken it a step further by getting her Broker's license. Bill has
been a Military Relocation Member with Base Borden and is
very knowledgeable with the relocation process.
