PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Students in this program are encouraged to balance breadth of
knowledge with depth of specialization. Our faculty has a wide
range of interests and expertise, spanning traditional historical
periods and cross-disciplinary fields like queer and feminist
theory, film studies, disability studies, and literary biography.
The MA in English with a Literature emphasis prepares students
both for further academic studies and for a variety of career
opportunities.

MINIMUM GPA REQUIRED:
3.0
MINIMUM TOEFL SCORE:
79 IBT
MINIMUM IELTS SCORE:
6.5
GRE REQUIRED?
Yes. However, non-native English
speakers may substitute TOEFL or
IELTS scores for GRE.
ADMISSION DECISIONS
Applicants should submit a statement of purpose (750-1000 words), writing sample
(8-15 pages, double spaced), and three letters of recommendation. Full information

WHEN ARE ADMISSION DECISIONS MADE?
Biannually. We notify applicants about admission decisions as quickly
as possible. Those taking advantage of rolling admission can
reasonably expect to get news within 4-6 weeks after the application
is complete; similarly, those applying by the January 15 deadline can
expect to get a decision mid- to late March. Conditional admission
is not offered.
GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS
REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants should indicate their desire to be considered for an
assistantship when they apply to the graduate program.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Graduate Assistants teach in our First-Year Writing Program.
