The Sonoma County Winegrape Commission will provide $1000 cash for prizes at the County Championship. In addition, AVA groups are raising money to further reward the best pruners from each region. Support for these contests to recognize and reward our vineyard employees for their pruning skills has been tremendous. We realize many of you are also members of regional AVA groups. This year the AVA groups may collect donations specifically for their pruning contest. Sonoma County Winegrape Commission (SCWC) will not be collecting donations for Regional Contests…EXCEPT for Knights Valley, as they have no regional organization. If you would like to support the regional contests, please contact those organizations. Sponsorship for the Pruning Contest will include various levels of donations to cover costs for food, refreshments, rentals, prize money for regional contests ($200/region) and any remaining money will be awarded to pruners reaching the finals at the Sonoma County Championships. Weather Contributor: We would like to offer companies the opportunity to help sponsor the weather information service, with phone and internet access provided currently by Western Weather Group. These forecasts are available at no charge to growers and are delivered to personal computers and smart phones or the forecasts can be accessed by telephone. Growers may check the Regional Data section for hourly weather data from a weather station nearest to them. The Powdery Mildew forecasts are based upon local station data. Evapotranspiration (ET) data are reported daily for those using Regulated Deficit Irrigation and CIMIS station ET to schedule irrigation. Currently, there are 19 stations throughout the county reporting hourly weather data with more stations to be added. These enhanced weather tools help growers to better manage frost risks, irrigation scheduling, water conservation and mildew control programs. All are important aspects of quality grape production. Many growers check the weather updates twice daily during the frost season and rely on this information for scheduling viticultural operations. The weather information currently provided by Western Weather is valued tool for grape growers. For $1,500.00 per year, your company can have two ways of promotion: One day a week of providing the weather forecast on the internet site. You can feature your company logo and tag line or a short message. A very brief message on the phone line so that growers are aware of your sponsorship. This will rotate on a weekly basis through the sponsors. For additional funds, you can opt for multiple days. If you are interested in more information on our weather program, please contact Ginger at (707) 522-5864. 3637 Westwind Blvd| Santa Rosa, CA 95403 [tel] 707.522-5864 [fax] 707-522-5866 www.sonomawinegrape.org info@sonomawinegrape.org
