Chapters 3-4:
1. Describe Jonathan Harker’s thoughts after he discovers the Count laying the table in the dining
room. Jonathan is terrified after he discovers Count laying the table in the dining room because
he realizes there is no help, and he is all alone with the Count. He sees he is trapped.
2. Count Dracula claims to be the ancestor of what famous warrior? Count claims to be the
ancestor of a man name Attila.
3. What does the Count warn Jonathan not to do when he is alone at night? Count warns
Jonathan not to sleep anywhere but in his own room at night.
4. Describe the way Jonathan Harker sees the Count leave the Castle. Jonathan sees Count
climbing down the stone wall, face first, using only his hands and feet to hold himself to the
wall.
5. Jonathan Harker falls asleep in the parlor. What does he see upon waking? When Jonathan
wakes in the parlor, he sees 3 women standing before him.
6. Describe the Count’s reaction to finding the women with Jonathan Harker. Count is furious
when he finds the women with Jonathan. Count threw one of the women back and yelled at
them.
7. What does Jonathan Harker believe he hears coming from the bag the Count had thrown to the
floor? Jonathan believes he hears the soft and tortured wail of small child.
8. What happens to the women and the bag? The women and the bag just disintegrate and they
disappear.
9. The Count instructs Jonathan to write three letters home. What is the content of these letters?
The three letters are to say that he has left for home and would be home in a week.
10. Jonathan attempts to send letters home without the Count reading them. What happens to the
letters? Count gets the letter and throws it into a fire when he finds the letters Jonathan attempts
to send home.
11. What does Jonathan discover upon waking on 31 May? Jonathan discovered on the 31st that
all of his papers and notes were missing and nowhere to be found.

12. What do the Slovaks deliver to the castle? The Slovaks delivered large, wooden boxes to the
castle.
13. When Count Dracula leaves the castle on 24 June, what does Jonathan Harker notice?
Jonathan notices that when Count leaves the castle on the 24th, he is wearing the clothes that
Jonathan had worn when he had traveled to the castle.
14. Jonathan goes to the window when he hears the agonizing cry of a woman. What does she
yell upon seeing Jonathan’s face in the window? The woman yells “Monster, give me my child!”
when she sees Jonathan.
15. What happens to the woman as she continues to bang on the door of the Count’s castle? The
woman was eaten by wolves that were commanded by Count to do so.
16. Jonathan decides to climb the wall of the castle into the Count’s room. Describe what
Jonathan Harker discovers in the Count’s room. Counts room was full of old furniture and piles
of gold covered with dust. Then, he finds a secret passage. In the secret passage, Jonathan finds
Count laying in a coffin sleeping.
17. Jonathan tells the Count that he wants to leave the night of 29 June, but he suddenly changes
his mind. Why? Jonathan decides not to leave the night of the 29th of June because he hears the
hungry cries of the wolves and fears he will die if he leaves during the night for the wolves
would kill him.
18. What does Jonathan Harker find when he goes back to the Count’s room to look for a key to
the door? When Jonathan goes back to Count’s room to look for a key, he finds Count puffy and
covered in blood, sleeping in a coffin.
