Jonathan Harker thought that Count Dracula must have been the coach driver because he saw no other people in the castle. (pg. 38) 2. Count Dracula claims to be the ancestor of what famous warrior? Count Dracula claims to be the ancestor of Attila. (pg. 39) 3. What does the Count warn Jonathan not to do when he is alone at night? The Count warns Jonathan not to fall asleep in any other rooms. He will be safe in his own room. (pg. 45) 4. Describe the way Jonathan Harker sees the Count leave the Castle. He saw Dracula climb down the wall like a lizard. Head down, toes and finders gripping onto the corners of the stones on the wall. Then he ducked away into a hole or window. (pg. 47) 5. Jonathan Harker falls asleep in the parlor. What does he see upon waking? He saw three young women. 2 were dark with piercing reddish eyes. The other was fair with golden hair and pale sapphire-like eyes. Just as the fair one was about to “kiss” him, the Count grabs her. Then Jonathan falls unconscious. (pg. 51) 6. Describe the Count’s reaction to finding the women with Jonathan Harker. He throws the fair woman. Then he yells at them as they tell him he cannot love. The Count was very angry. (pg. 53) 7. What does Jonathan Harker believe he hears coming from the bag the Count had thrown to the floor? He thinks that he can hear a child’s half-smothered scream. (pg. 54) 8. What happens to the women and the bag? The women and the bag magically vanish. There were no doors or windows near them. They just faded into the moonlight. (pg. 54) 9. The second should be June 19. He was to leave the next day. The third should be June 29. He had left the castle and was in Bistritz. 10. Jonathan attempts to send letters home without the Count reading them. What happens to the letters? Jonathan had given the letters to a Szgany, who ends up just giving them to Dracula. Dracula opens them and reads them out loud. He says he will send the letter to Peter, but not the one to Mina. (pg. 58) 11. What does Jonathan discover upon waking on 31 May? Once Jonathan woke up, he realized that every scrap of paper he had was gone. (pg. 59) 12. What do the Slovaks deliver to the castle? The Slovaks delivered boxes to the castle. Jonathan assumes they are empty because the Slovaks carry them with such ease. (pg. 60) 13. When Count Dracula leaves the castle on 24 June, what does Jonathan Harker notice? Jonathan notices that the Count is wearing the suit that Jonathan was wearing when he had arrived at the castle. He was also carrying the bag that the women had taken away. (pg. 60) 14. Jonathan goes to the window when he hears the agonizing cry of a woman. What does she yell upon seeing Jonathan’s face in the window? The woman yelled, “Monster, give me my child!” (pg. 62) 15. What happens to the woman as she continues to bang on the door of the Count’s castle? As the woman continues to bang on the doors, the Count yells out to the wolves. The wolves go to the castle, eat the woman, and then leave, licking their lips. (pg. 62) 16. Jonathan decides to climb the wall of the castle into the Count’s room. Describe what Jonathan Harker discovers in the Count’s room. Jonathan sees that the room is mostly empty and very dusty. Then he notices a large, heavy door that leads to an old, ruined chapel. (pg. 64) 17. Jonathan tells the Count that he wants to leave the night of 29 June, but he suddenly changes his mind. Why? He thought the Count was going to feed him to the wolves. (pg. 68) 18. What does Jonathan Harker find when he goes back to the Count’s room to look for a key to the door? When Jonathan goes back to the Count room, he didn’t see anything. He went to the chapel where he sees one of the boxes that the Slovaks had brought to the castle. When he opens the lid to a box, he sees Dracula sleeping inside the box, blood dripping from his mouth. (pg. 70)
