Gratitude Endowment Scholarship – UNC Charlotte SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES AND INSTRUCTIONS The Gratitude Endowment Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for students (male or female) age 25 or older or students with physical disability entering or re-entering UNC-Charlotte. MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY Scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria at the time of application: 1. Be a “nontraditional” male or female student age 25 or older attending UNC-Charlotte. 2. Applicants must be legal residents of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. 3. Applicants must have a 3.0 minimum GPA. APPLICATION PACKET INSTRUCTIONS Before mailing in your application packet, be sure to enclose: 1. Completed scholarship application form 2. 2014-2015 Student Aid Report (SAR) from your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) through the U.S. Department of Education. For additional information or to apply, please visit www.fafsa.ed.gov 3. An official transcript of grades for the applicant’s most recently completed coursework. This may include high school transcripts, GED score report or any postsecondary transcripts. Internet transcripts will not be accepted. 4. A one –two page typed (double-spaced, using no less than a 10-point type font) personal statement in which you: “1) describe what your life’s goals and objectives are and how obtaining additional education or a college degree will further these goals and objectives, and (2) explain what qualifies you for this scholarship.” 5. Students with a physical disability should attach a letter from a licensed medical doctor on his/her letterhead, including medical license number, confirming diagnosis of physical disability. 6. Two recommendation forms from non-related adults such as teachers, employers, mentors etc. 7. Applications submitted electronically (e.g. fax, email) or that are incomplete will be disqualified 8. Print single side only and do not staple applications SELECTION CRITERIA The Scholarship Committee will consider the following when selecting scholarship recipients: 1. Financial need as determined by the costs of college attendance compared with an applicant’s household income and other financial factors. 2. Demonstrated potential for academic success. Scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the Foundation's Board of Directors based on scholarship committee recommendations. The Foundation pays scholarship funds directly to the recipient’s school. Scholarships are designated for tuition, required fees, books and supplies only. Scholarships are awarded for one year only. The Foundation may consider renewal scholarships provided funds are available, the recipient enrolls full-time and the recipient maintains qualifying criteria.
