Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest undergraduate honors organization in the United States. The Society has
pursued its mission of fostering and recognizing excellence in the liberal arts and sciences since 1776.
The Phoenix area Phi Beta Kappa Association carries out the mission of the national organization by:
 Supporting local college students in the liberal arts with scholarships to ASU.
 Inviting all local members to an annual meeting, to vote for officers of the Board of Directors and
to listen to an eminent guest speaker.
 Organizing attendance at events such as special art exhibits, campus tours, and social occasions.
 Participating in community service activities.

Award Amount and Conditions: $1,000 per year, renewable each semester while in an
undergraduate program. In order for the award to be renewed, the student must maintain at least a 3.50
cumulative GPA with at least 12 credit hours per semester. (Renewal is also subject to the PBK Association
having sufficient resources.) Within two weeks of the end of each semester, the student must submit the
ASU transcript to the address below for our review of the GPA and credit hours. The scholarship can be
used for any educational expense (tuition, housing, books/supplies, etc.).
To be eligible for the scholarship, an applicant must:




Have completed at least 30 credit hours at ASU.
Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50.
Be in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Have a demonstrated financial need (as determined by FAFSA).
Application Materials (please submit in this order):
 Completed Phi Beta Kappa Association Application
 Personal statement (no more than 2 pages double spaced) describing:
 Personal and family background.
 Education and career goals.
 How this scholarship will assist in achieving your education and career goals.
 Copy of your most recent transcript (unofficial copies are acceptable).
 Copy of your current FAFSA.
 Copy of a graded writing assignment from an ASU course. Include the course name and
the name of the instructor.
Please submit the application and all required material either electronically or by mail (in one envelope) by
June 12, 2015 to:
