Assessed task: Hannibal and 2nd Punic War What is the task? Imagine you are part of Hannibal’s army during the 2nd Punic War. Write 4 postcards home to your family, at various interesting points in the journey, telling friends and family in Carthage about what you have experienced. Try to include as many historical facts and details as possible e.g. accurate dates, Hannibal’s personality & tactics, how you have overcome obstacles, the weather, details of battles fought, problems experienced, your hopes/chances of victory etc. How should I start? 1. You already have some notes on the 2nd Punic wars and have watched videos on the main events. There is also information in your textbook pages 18-21. 2. First you need to decide which 4 main events you will describe in your 4 postcards. Try to pick events that you have plenty of information already for and that will make for interesting reading. 3. Now you need to plan the main details that you intend to include in each postcard. This will be best done on computer. Create 4 titles: postcard 1, postcard 2 etc. Now underneath each one in bullet points list: the main event, the date of the postcard, any details you have of the event – be specific e.g. numbers of troops, name of generals etc. 4. Once you have done this you need to look at the information you have and decide whether you need more information for any of your 4 postcards. If you do then use the textbook and/or the Internet to try and ‘fact find’ extra details. The website: www.mrwright.wikispaces.com has some useful links and YouTube videos, just follow the right links! 5. Once you are happy that you have enough specific information then you should start drafting your full postcards. Remember to use your own words and try to be empathetic. Refer to the mark scheme to ensure that you are meeting the requirements. 6. Finally you need to proof read your work and lay it out in a postcard format. You should include a picture on the reverse just like a real postcard and this can be hand drawn or printed. 7. Now double check spelling/grammar etc and hand in your work on time! As long as you have followed these instructions and asked for help when you needed it then you have nothing to worry about: good job! Assessed task: Hannibal and 2nd Punic War Mark Scheme A* grades will be awarded to exceptional pieces of work that combine superb detail, accuracy and empathy along with excellent presentation beyond what would usually be expected in year 7. Such pieces of work will also show clear evidence of extended research beyond the materials used in class.
