AMET Prior Winners Scholarship Program for College Students
Summer/Fall 2016 Scholarship Application
Program Description
The AMET Scholarship program is designed to assist college migrant students who are prior AMET
winners and have a history of migration and have the potential and desire to obtain a college degree.
Awards will be available in June for Summer enrollees and August for Fall enrollees, when student
provides proof of enrollment (registration form) to the college or trade school. Visit www.ametx.org

Awards
Scholarship amounts are determined by the AMET Scholarship Committee on the basis of
background in migrant farm work, financial need, and the academic potential of the youth.
Three (3) scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded. Amounts a student receives are to be
used for tuition and fees required for enrollment or attendance at an educational institution, or for
books, supplies, and equipment required for courses of instruction. Scholarships dispersed are not
payment for students' services.
Eligibility Requirements
 Be a prior AMET Winner
 Be currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution (public or private college,
technical or vocational school)
 Must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
Required Documents - (Submit in this Order if Mailing in Paper Hard Copies!!!)
To be considered for an AMET scholarship, applicants must submit a complete application including
all the required documents listed below annually postmarked by February 15.
1. Completed application (Pages 4 - 6 ONLY, Typed or Handwritten Neatly; No blanks)
2. Scholarship Essay (TYPED - ONE PAGE ONLY - See essay instructions on page 3.)
3. ONE recommendation letter
4. Official or unofficial college transcript
IMPORTANT: Please submit application and the supporting documents in this order ONLY.
Applications with missing documents and/or documents NOT in the EXACT order will not be
considered.
Application Deadline: Annually Postmarked by February 15

AMET Regional Director (Page 2). Students are encouraged to apply online at www.Edudaris.com.

SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY INSTRUCTIONS
 Answer the questions below as a guide to organize your main ideas.
 Each section of the body should have only two to three sentences.
 The final essay should be ONE page only, font size 12, Arial or Times New Roman.
 Have someone else review, provide feedback, and edit your essay.
 Do NOT include your name in the essay or on the essay.
 The foundational “My Story” essay can be “tweaked” and used over and over again to complete
a majority of all required college admission and scholarship essays.
I. Introduction
The opening sentence and paragraph must catch the reader’s attention and interest.
II. Body
A. Family


Describe your family: ethnic background, gender, country of origin, number of brothers/sisters,
parents’ educational background and occupation.
Mention any special circumstances such as: single parent home, illness, death, disability, divorce,
or mobility.
B. Obstacle, Overcoming, Character Qualities



Describe one of your most challenging obstacles and how did you overcome it?
What character qualities have you learned, are presently learning, or need to learn from your
obstacle?
Explain how this obstacle will help you to become successful in the future.
C. Community Service, Leadership, Role Model




Describe two or three contributions you have made in community service.
When and where have you served others?
How has it made you a better person? What impact did you make?
What did you learn about life, yourself, or other people?
D. Life Purpose, Direction of Study



Explain your dreams for the future, educational, and career goals.
What are the reasons you are seeking this field of study?
How can you contribute to society or make a difference in the lives of others?
III. Conclusion



Why do you want to attend university/college? Why do you need a scholarship?
Describe in detail any special family circumstances that will affect your ability to obtain assistance
in reaching your goal.
Example: Without a scholarship I would not be able to attend college because______.

REFERENCE LETTERS
One recommendation letter from an adult, which could include a counselor, teacher, or community
leader, must be included with your application. The recommendation letter may not be written by
the applicant, anyone under 21 years of age, or anyone related to the applicant or serving as a legal
guardian. Please have the recommender write a letter addressing the student's character,
educational commitment, achievements, grades, potential, etc., and supporting the need for
financial assistance.
