“I Remember” poem

You will write a poem of 16 lines, which will consist of 4 stanzas, each stanza needs to include 1 quatrain. Each stanza needs to begin with the phrase “I remember…”

It does not have to rhyme, but it can, it would be cool if it did.

Memories should be about different times in your life. Make one about something that happened in the last 24 hours. Make another one about the earliest memories you have. Everything else should be about different things that happened in between.

Consider the things you might want to write about: I remember…

A person

A detail about a person

A specific place

A smell

The shape of something

An event

An object that is meaningful to you

Here’s a tip: if you want to write about a person, it’s better to soon switch to one of the other things on the list than to continue to talk directly about the person.

Consider the difference between these two short memories:

I remember my first grade teacher Mrs. Ezell. She made a difference in my life

I remember she had a glass frog on her desk; now I love frogs.

This is individual work

There should be no talking

Use at least 5 different examples of figurative language in your poem. Think about how Robert Browning used imagery. Think about Maxine Kumin used vivid verbs. Spend time being a wordsmith. Do you know what that means??? Ask me.

Draw a picture that goes with your poem. Color it. Put your picture and your poem on the front of a piece of paper that is no larger than 11 x 17. Make it look good. These will be displayed in my room and in E-hall.

This is due on the day of your quiz. This assignment is worth 50 points.
