Annual General Meeting Minutes CSAM-SMCA 2014 Ottawa Call to order by President Ron Lim at 4:10 Motion by P. Sobey, seconded by D. Ling to adopt the Agenda. Carried. Motion to adopt the Minutes of the CSAM-SMCA 2013 AGM by N. el-Guebaly, seconded by D. Ling. Carried. Introduction of the CSAM-SMCA Board of Directors, including Dr. Morris Markentin the new provincial representative for Saskatchewan. President’s Report to Membership – Dr. Ron Lim - Bylaws have been completed – Thaks expressed to B. Fern for all his work and perseverance on this task. - New Bylaws will allow for an Associate member on the Board of Directors and a notice will go out to members to ask for any expressions of interest which will be reviewed by the Board of Directors - Compliance with the New Not-for-Profit Corporation Act has been completed - Thanks to the P. Sobey, J. Daiter and the Conference Committee for all their work in organizing CSAM-SMCA 2014 - Thanks to the Standards Committee for their work on the Certification Pathway - Thanks to N. el-Guebaly for work on CJA-JCA and encouraged those present to view the latest special on Education in the field of Addiction Medicine - Thanks to S. Cirone for work on the Education Committee which has put together the 2014 Fundamentals course to run Sunday Oct 19, and for her work on developing a core curriculum for Fundamentals and training. - If any member interested in participating on a committee – please sign up at registration table Honorary membership has been bestowed on Dr. Bill Campbell for his contributions to CSAM-SMCA and for his 30 years of work in the field. Dr. Campbell was unable to be present but the plaque will be mailed out to him. Policies will be reviewed in the coming future and then sent to a panel for review (ex. Rita Notanrandrea ). Currently looking for those interested in assisting in the initial policy updating or creation. Treasurer’s Report to Membership – Dr. Jeff Daiter - Review of the Notice to Reader financial statements - Motion by J. Daiter, seconded by R. Lim to engage Crowe Mackay as accountants for 2013. Carried. - J. Daiter moved his report as presented, seconded by Paul. Carried. Bylaws Committee - Cleaning up language found two words in section 5.5 that are inconsistent with rest of language - Need to align with items: o How/when to remove a director o Ability to have Associate classifications o Conditions for directorship o Provisions for inactivity of Directors - “Must belong to a self-regulating body” – remove words ‘Physician’ and ‘medicine’ – these two words conflict with the inclusion of Associate membership. Motion by B. Fern to remove the words “Physician” and “medicine”, seconded by M. Varenbut. Carried. Education Committee - Current status: fluctuating certification but none based on Canadian compentencies or curriculum. - CFPC offering Certificates of Added Competency in 5 areas - no plans to look at other areas in foreseeable future - Collaborative application spearheaded by CAMH to RSPCS for an AFC diploma in Addiction Medicine. Meeting will be in November in BC for decision to accept or not. It would be the first Canadian Certification in the field. 1 - Dr. Claudette Chase is member of the CFPC Executive and will investigate as she does not believe there is a refusal to look at other areas for CAC’s aside from the current 5 (ER/Palliative/Sports Medicine/Anaesthesia/Geriatrics) Membership Committee - New Committee Chair, Dr. Paul Sobey - Also on committee: N. Riese, L. Evans, J. Daiter and M. Morin - Will have first meeting to establish benchmarks and strategies - Suggestion by D. Ling to send a personal letter to those who do not renew - Online membership registration still has some glitches but improving Standards Committee - The Certification Pathway was reviewed and adopted and is now on the webpages in English and French - List of certificants on the webpages - Priorities for several policies came out of the Board of Directors meeting for the coming year Webpages Committee - For those interested in participating- please sign up - Work ongoing – pages were redone and finished recently CJA-JCA: - Online notice to members when issue is on the CSAM-SMCA webpages - Let office know if not receiving - Special issue on Education just came out - Submissions are welcomed – currently have material for 1.5 future issues - Revising Instructions to Authors - Will be looking into PsychInfo and PubMed Textbook of Addiction Treatment: International Perspectives - 4 volumes with 250 authors from 30 countries - Coming out Dec 15/14 - Online and print versions available - Discount for ISAM members and CSAM members (as ISAM Affiliate society members) ISAM Certification Examination: - 4 sat the exam in Ottawa - Questions will be revised in coming two years Dr. Joseph Cox, Chair, Standards Committee announced two certificants in 2014: Dr. Robert Pereira and Dr. Adam Newman and presented the certificate to Dr. Newman. There are 85 CSAM-SMCA certificants to date. Plaque to Dr. Brian Fern in recognition of his work and services as President.
