Paper Towel Lab Report
Name: __________________________________ Period: _____________
Purpose: What is the best brand of paper towel (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, or J) considering the variables of _____________________ and __________________?
Hypothesis: If a brand has ______________________________ , then it will be more absorbent because ______________________________________________
___________________________________________________________________
If a brand has __________________________, then it will be stronger than others because ___________________________________________________________
__________________________________________________________________
Overall , I predict that brand “ ________” will be the best.
Procedures:
Materials: 10 different brands of paper towels, water, various forms of mass
(gravel, weights, or marbles), pipette, 50 ml graduated cylinder, 100 ml graduated cylinder, 50 ml plastic beaker, triple beam balance, metric ruler, scissors, 2 small rubber bands, 1 large rubber band(90mmx6mm), plastic tub, funnel, data sheet, clock, and

Be sure to keep your variables constant by using controls as you design investigation!
Steps:
1) Label paper towels A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, & J to eliminate potential bias.
2) Test for Wet Strength:
A)
B)
Record results on data sheet.
Repeat steps _A_- __ with all brands.
3) Test for Absorbency:
A)
B)
Etc.
Record results on data sheet.
Repeat steps _A_- __ with all brands.
4) Score the paper towels by ranking them 1 to 10 (10 = best and 1 = least).
Divide the final point in ties. For example, two that are tied for best get only
9.5 points each instead of the full 10.
If you need more room attach another sheet; update the numbers of the steps. Don’t forget we will eventually do wet strength and absorbency. Plan on making more steps later. Update your procedures if they change during testing!

Data: See separate, attached sheet.
Graph: See separate, attached sheet.
Conclusion:
After testing, and considering all of the data, I find brand __________ to be the best choice. It scored ___________ points in strength and _________ points in absorbency. The worst brand was ______________. ( Continue by expanding your thoughts: Our testing was good / bad . . . Variables? . . . In the future we would . . . . etc .) _____________________________________________________
