LESSON PLAN 5 – Jorge Sánchez Class level Classroom Advanced 1 Progress expectation The students should be able to include question tags in their speech as well as use the new vocabulary taught in class when talking about consuming. The vocabulary taught in this lesson is related to consuming and the grammar deals with Question Tags as to let the students to express facts about how to consume moderately as well as their opinion about general consumption. Consuming. The students will be prepared to provide information about their consuming habits using the vocabulary taught together with the Question Tags at the end of their statements. The students should be able to talk about their consuming habits as well as using the correct Question Tag in all if their statements. Also, they will write about consuming using the vocabulary taught and they will also discuss about overconsumption and ways to save money when shopping. It is assumed that they have an advanced level which would let them understand the teacher’s explanations without difficulties as well as do all the exercises planned. They are assumed to know not only all of verb tenses for regular and irregular verbs but also the use of auxiliary and modal verbs as to choose the proper form of a Question Tag when required. Visuals, worksheets, handouts, whiteboard. They will express their opinion about consuming using Question Tags and the teacher will be correcting their mistakes and remembering the grammar taught when required. When the class has finished, as they will have been guided by the teacher as to avoid mistakes, the students will be able to discuss about the best ways to save money, understand an opinion dialogue about a shopping advertisement and tell their shopping routines. The lesson went even better than expected as the majority of the students knew each of the verb tenses used to explain Question Tags and so they could use them almost without committing mistakes. Most of them were eager to learn all the vocabulary taught as to use it on their opinion statements, for instance. Their level was appropriate to talk about the topic as well as to practice Question Tags. The students’ reaction was really positive as they were motivated to deal not only with the chosen topic but also with the proposed grammar. The level of attention was good enough as to understand the vocabulary, definitions, synonyms and the grammar explained and so they could do the exercises given quite well. I would improve the plan using listening exercises such as dialogues related to consumption, as they could reinforce the vocabulary and grammar presented. Also, the grammar explanation would be shorter and the teacher speaking time in this phase will be reduced as to let the students give their assumptions about the use of Question tags, for instance. Moreover, I would explain the grammar using the self-discovery method as the use of Question Tags may be more intuitive for advanced learners than I expected.
