Final Senior Project
When you started high school English your very first unit was on Tuesdays With Morrie,
a story about a man’s relationship with his dying college professor. Each chapter was a
different life topic they discussed together. They met on Tuesdays.
Your final project for English class will be a series of reflections on your life thus far.
You will consider the past four years of your life – the advice you got, the advice you
didn’t follow and what you wish people had told you.
Each section of the Final Project will be due in pieces over the next semester. They will
be edited and returned to you for revision. They will be due every Tuesday.
Your Final Project will consist of the following revised components:

Good-bye Response
Photograph Free Write OR Song Reflection
All components should be 3/4 to 1 full page single-spaced. Size 12. MLA format.
Dedication Page
The first page of your final project will be a dedication page. Choose a person who has
inspired and helped you to make the discoveries that are to follow. Say thank you.
Describe how he/she changed the way you think and live your life.
Choose four of the following topics. The topic should be the title of your reflection:

Fear of Getting Older
Our Culture
Feeling Sorry For Yourself
Family
Love Goes On
The Perfect Day
Regrets
Emotions
Marriage
Forgiveness
Your Fifth Response - Good-bye:
You are about to leave a world (Westford/WA) that you have come to know well over the
past seventeen/eighteen years of your life. Now you must say good-bye. Reflect on what
you will miss – the places, the people. Consider when and why you will come back.
Again, what people will you visit, what stops will you make. Give Westford
compliments, hope, and advice. Say good-bye.
Photograph Free Write:
This is an absolute brain drain about a photograph of your choice. Please include a copy
of the photo with your response (does not need to be color).
Song Reflection:
This is an absolute brain drain about a song of your choice. Please include a copy of the
lyrics with your response.
Tips for Writing:
* Try your best not to use first person. If you need to, use it sparingly.
* An affective way to write is instead of feeling as though you are writing a journal entry
pretend you are describing a series of photographs – snapshots.
* Use your five senses and describe don’t just tell.
* If you start a topic and hit a wall after a paragraph, switch topics. Save what you have
written as you may be able to restart later.
* Remember proper MLA format:

Grading:
Each Tuesday ONE of the components of your final project will be due. If English does
not meet on Tuesday that week consider it a BYE (no response due that week). You may
choose which component you turn in each week – there is no set order. Each component
counts as a homework grade. One day late is an automatic 50.
The Final Project will be due in 9 weeks or so before some of you leave for your
Internship. You will have a more exact due date as we get closer.
For all 7 written assignments (Dedication Page, 4 Topic Responses, Good-bye Response,
Photograph Free Write OR Song Reflection):
70 pts. Quality of Writing in written assignments.
20 pts. Clear Revisions & Proper MLA Format.
10 pts. Rough drafts included.
