Indonesian President, H.E. Madam Megawati Soekarnoputri was on a state visit to
India from April 1-5, 2002. The Indonesian President was accompanied by her husband,
Mr. Taufiq Kiemas and her daughter, Ms. Puan Maharani. Dr. Nur Hassan Wirajuda,
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Rini M.S. Suwandi, Minister for Trade & Industry, Mr.
Hatta Rajasa, State Minister of Research & Technology, and Mr. Shyamsul Mu’arif,
State Minister for Communication & Information were also part of President
Megawati’s official delegation to India. She was also accompanied by a large business
delegation. India was the last leg of Indonesian President 12-day tour of Asian countries
after China, North Korea and South Korea.

H.E. Mrs. Megawati Soekarnoputri’s state visit to India from April
1-5, 2002 was with the aim to further strengthen the economic and
trade cooperation between the two countries.
Indonesian President, H.E. Mrs. Megawati Soekarnoputri was
officially received by the Minister of State for Small Scale Industries
Smt. Vasundhara Raje on her arrival to India in the New Delhi airport
on April 1, 2002. Present on this occasion were H.E. Mr. Zakaria
Soemintaatmadja, Indonesian Ambassador to India and the officials
of Indonesian Embassy, New Delhi.
Indonesian President, H.E. Mrs. Megawati Soekarnoputri was given a
ceremonial reception in the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan on
Wednesday, April 3, 2002. Thereafter Indonesian President went to
Rajghat to lay a wreath at the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi.
President Megawati also met Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, the Leader of the
Opposition and the wife of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Indonesian President delivered a speech at Rajiv Gandhi Foundation
on the theme “Rediscovering the Asian Identity”.
The Indonesian President was also called on by Indian Vice President,
Mr. Krishna Kant and Mrs. Suman Krishna Kant.
President Megawati met with Indian President K.R. Narayanan and
Mrs. Usha Narayanan, who hosted the banquet in honour of the
President of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Mrs. Megawati
Soekarnoputri and Mr. Taufiq Kiemas on April 3, 2002 at New Delhi.
The Indian President, H.E. Mr. Narayanan called for deepening the
contacts and cooperation between India and Indonesia in the field of
science and technology, agriculture, ecological conservation,
information technology and other areas of common concern. President
Narayanan also recalled the age-old relationship between Indonesia
and India in terms of History, common culture and shared traditions
and value systems. President Narayanan also said that “We in India
cherish the close personal associations of the Soekarno family with
our country”.
President in her remarks reiterated the strong historical and cultural
ties between two countries. She further added that it was our common
duty to utilize this enormous asset to make the bilateral relations
between the two countries meaningful. Apart from the political
relationship, which was very satisfactory at the bilateral, regional, and
international levels, she felt that there was room to develop
cooperation in other fields, especially in trade, investment, health, and
human resource development. Indonesian President meeting with
Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was followed by
delegation level talks. Prime Minister Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee
expressed India’s keen interest in participating in railway projects in
Indonesia, under suitable financial mechanisms, like counter-trade.
Prime Minister also called for strengthening the bilateral cooperation
between India and Indonesia in other infrastructure areas such as
telecommunications, power projects and ports development.

Indian Prime Minister also expressed happiness on the cooperation in IT sector where India is
currently providing special, customized training to Indonesian engineers. Indian Prime Minister
further also announced that India would sponsor a high level investment delegation to Indonesia in
order to study investment opportunities for Indian businesses in Indonesia. India has also offered
to extend support to Indonesia in their setting up of a Film and Television Institute of Fashion
Design in Indonesia. Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee also proposed the setting up of seats
of Indonesian and Indian studies in the Indian and Indonesian universities. As a statement of
India’s desire for closer engagement with ASEAN, Prime Minister announced India’s offer to set up
the India-ASEAN Biotechnology Centre and the India-ASEAN Science & Technology Digital
Library both in Jakarta.
After the delegation level talks, three agreements were signed. The first will provide visa-free
facilities to each other’s citizens holding official and diplomatic passports, Second MoU for the
setting up of a vocational training center in the construction sector and third MoU for cooperation
between the Indonesian National Outer Space Institute (Lapan) and the Indian Outer Space
Institute (ISRO).
Indonesian President, H.E. Mrs. Megawati Soekarnoputri said that the nine MoUs and the three
inter-governmental MoUs signed during her visit to India reflected the level and scope of
interaction between India and Indonesia.

Indonesian President state visit to India included visit to Hyderabad on April 4, 2002. On
arrival at the Hyderabad airport she was welcomed by Andhra Pradesh Governor, Mr.
C. Rangarajan, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu and Indian
Minister of State for Urban Development, Mr. Bandaru Dattareya.
Indonesian President on her visit to Hyderabad visited the Hyderabad Information
Technology and Engineering Consultancy (HITEC) city complex, she was briefed about
IT-related initiatives of the state government. During her 50-minute stay, the Indonesian
President witnessed a presentation on the state government’s IT-related policies and egovernance initiatives. Andhra Pradesh Commercial Taxes Minister, Mr. K. Vijayrama
Rao explained the State’s Visision 2020 document, the strides made by the
government in the knowledge sector under Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu.
State IT secretary, Mr. J. Satyanarayana in his presentation on using IT people
explained about the e-Governance, APSWAN, CARD, eSeva and FAST Projects. Mr.
Satyanarayana also explained the close ties between Indonesia and the State
government in the IT area, further adding that Satyam Group, Intelligroup and Sierra
Optima have business relationships with IT companies in Indonesia.
Later the Indonesian President attended a lunch hosted by Andhra Pradesh, Governor,
Mr. C. Rangarajan and his wife Mrs. Haripriya Rangarajan at Raj Bhavan with
attendance of Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu. After the luncheon meeting,
Indonesian President left for Mumbai for the private visit.

A Business Luncheon meeting “Strengthening India-Indonesia Partnership” was Jointly organized by Federation of Indian Chamber
of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on April 3, 2002 at Hotel Maurya Sheraton, New Delhi.
Nine major MOUs between Indian and Indonesian companies in the field of railways, palm oil, pharmaceuticals, communication
technology, information technology, hospitality, afforestation and between apex chambers of commerce and industry (FICCI, CII &
KADIN) of both countries were signed in the presence of H E Madam Megawati Soekarnoputri, President of the Republic of
Indonesia.
Indonesian President in her speech urged the Indian Businessmen to come to Indonesia to set up new businesses and enter into
joint ventures with Indonesian business partners, further the president admitted that the question of investing in Indonesia was
largely dependant on the kind of political situation, public order, law enforcement machinery and the stable security that exist in
Indonesia. Megawati said that Indonesia was trying hard to overcome the southeast Asian Financial crisis with is limited resources.
In that regard the President pointed out that they are trying hard to amend their investment policy. President Megawati said that “Our
main objective is to open our door as wide as possible for the capital to enter the country, both for the financing of the new
businesses or for the expansion of the existing ones”. Further speaking on the trade between the two countries which in the late
2000 was only US $1.5 billion, President Megawati said that the figure was very small in view of the existing potentials of Indonesian
economy. Megawati added that railway transport construction, pharmacy, agriculture, education, healthcare and information
technology as the sectors in which India could share its expertise. In return, Indonesia could provide agricultural products such as
palm oil, wood products, fisheries, oil and gas.
The Nine MoUs signed are as detailed below;
 Railway : Ministry of Communication, Republic of Indonesia & South Sumatra Provincial Government with MMTC & IRCON.
Under this agreement New Delhi will build a railway line and a port terminal worth US $260 million in South Sumatra province in
exchange for coal, timber and crude oil. The construction in Indonesia will be undertaken by state-owned Indian Railway
Construction Co (IRCON). IRCON handles railway construction contracts within the country and abroad.
 Palm Oil : Indonesian Palm Oil Producers Association (GAPKI) & MMTC. Under this agreement New Delhi will supply palm
crushing and milling technology in exchange for palm oil and other products.
 Pharmaceuticals : Indo Farma & Lupin Ltd. This MoU involves development and marketing of anti TB medicines between Indo
Farma of Indonesia and Lupin Ltd.
 Communication Technology : PT Ekakarya Teknik Cikara (ETC) & Midas Communication Technologies Pvt.Ltd.
 Information Technology : PT Kopitime Dot Com Tbk & Elmaq Software Private Limited
 Hospitality : Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (IHRA) and Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India
(FHRAI)
 Joint R & D Programme for Afforestation between PT Kaltimex Jaya & National Research Development Corporation (NRDC)

Ms. Vasundhara Raje, Minister of State for Small Scale Industries, in her speech said that apart from fields like IT, software
development and IT enabled services there are lot of opportunities in the SME sector which generates 65 to 95 percent of
employment worldwide. Ms. Raje said that these are the sectors where India and Indonesia can synergise to each other’s
benefit.Mr. Sanjiv Goenka, President of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) said that they will be organizing an Indian Week
where they will bring a CEO’s delegation, will organize an exhibition with sector specific seminars, a cultural event and a food
festival. Referring to the CII’s MOU with KADIN, Mr. Sanjiv Goenka said that this meeting will mark the beginning of a new
partnership between KADIN and CII. Mr. R.S. Lodha, President of Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI)
said that in areas such as infrastructure projects, railway and transport network and telecom, IT, biotechnology and
pharmaceuticals, India can extend its support and expertise to Indonesia. Referring to FICC’s MOU with KADIN, Mr. Lodha said that
this MOU will put the partnership of CII with Indonesian Industry on fast track so that concrete projects are concretized. Mr. Aburizal
Bakrie, President of Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) in his remarks outlined important areas of
opportunities that exist between the two countries.

INDONESIA TO REVOKE MASS MEDIA,

INVESTMENT NEGATIVE LIST (INL)
The Chairman of Investment coordinating board
(BKPM), Mr. Theo F. Toemion recently said that the
Indonesian government is going to revoke mass media,
university, and hospital from the investment negative list
(INL) to give chance to foreign investors entering those
sectors. The INL revocation is conducted after the
legalization of the new investment law. Mr. Theo F.
Toemion said that slandering of INL will be
accomplished after the investment bill passed into law
(UU). Mr. Theo F. Toemion further added that the
proposal had been submitted to the government and
now it is being discussed at the office of Minister of
Justice and human rights.
RI’S EXPORTS IN FEBRAURY
– US $4.18 BLN - BPS
The Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS)
recently reported that Indonesia’s exports rose to 4.36%
in February to US $4.18 billion. The Chief of BPS, Mr.
Sudarti Surbakti said that stronger exports in February
were attributable to the recovery in the US and Japanese
economies. Indonesian exports to the US climbed from
US $498.1 million in January to US $570.9 million in
February, while exports to Japan increased from US
$432.6 million to US $507.1 million. Mr. Surbakti said
that the overall month-on-month increase was due to a
7.23% surge in exports of non-oil/gas commodities to
US $3.37 billion. Exports of oil and gas were worth US
$811.3 million in February, down from US $863.9
million in January. Indonesia’s total exports of US $8.18
billion in the first two months marked decline of
15.03% compared with the same period in year 2001.
Imports in February were up by 4.74% to US $1.98
billion from the January’s level. Imports of oil and gas
increased by 17.62% in February to US $371.1 million,
while imports of other commodities rose by 2.15% to
US $1.61 billion from the previous month. The total
imports of US $3.87 billion in the first two months of
2002 indicated a year-on-year decrease of 36.8%.
RI TO BOOST CPO OUTPUT & EXPORTS
Indonesia’s crude palm oil (CPO) output is projected to
increase to about 9 million tons in the current year
compared to 8.3 tons last year, while the exports are
expected to rise to 5.5 million tons from 4.9 tons. Mr.
Derom Bangun, Head of the Indonesian Palm Oil
Producers (GAPKI) said that CPO output is likely to

increase this year as palm trees planted from 1996 to
1998 were expected to begin production this year.
Mr. Derom said that they were optimistic that
Indonesia’s CPO output would increase this year due
to larger demand, particularly from China and India.
Indonesia’s CPO exports to India will reach to 1.6
million tons this year up from 1.5 million tons last
year. Mr. Derom said that GAPKI and MMTC Ltd,
one of the India’s largest trading and industrial firms
has recently signed an agreement which allowed
GAPKI members to swap their CPO products with
CPO plant machines produced by the Indian firm.
Mr. Derom also added that Indonesia expected to
boost its exports to China to about 720,000 tons this
year, from 400,000 tons last year.
EAST KALIMANTAN 2ND BEST
INVESTMENT PLACE
IN INDONESIA – SURVEY
The Chairman of East Kalimantan Provincial
Promotion and Investment Body, Mr. Ibnu Nirwani
said that East Kalimantan’s economic competitive
edge has made it the second best place for
Investment Indonesia after Jakarta. Mr. Ibnu made
the statement based on a recent research carried out
by the Indonesian Central Bank, Bank Indonesia (BI)
and the Bandung-based Padjadjaran University.
FOREIGN INVESTMENT IN INDONESIA
JANUARY - FEBRUARY 2002
The Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board
(BKPM) recently announced that the number of
approved foreign investment projects in January 1February 28, 2002 period summed up to 149 projects
with investment valued amounted to US $489.3
million, a significant drop compared to 189 projects
and US $2.33 billion recorded in the same period in
the previous year. The approved projects comprise
new ones and the ones with status change, while the
investment value recored was from the new, and the
expanded projects and also those with status change.
Trade and reparation were the business field with
highest attraction to foreign investors as data
revealed that the projects in the field summed up to
63 projects. Meanwhile the number of projects in
service was 18, transportation 11, and rudiment
metal industry, metal products, machine and
electronics was 9 projects.

RI’S CAR SALES INCREASED BY 7.35%
Indonesia’s domestic car sales have increased by 7.5% to
73,985 unit in the first quarter (January-March) of the
current year compared to the units of 68,784 of last
year. The Indonesian Motor Vehicle Industry
Association (Gaikindo) reported that growth during the
first quarter was mostly triggered by the sale increase of
28,610 units during March, up by 26% compared to
previous month figure of 22,680 units. Meanwhile , the
total exports during the first quarter reached 10,863
units making total domestic and international car sales
by members of GAIKINDO stand at 84,848 units or
growth of 7.4% compared to the same period of
previous year.
BATAM TO BECOME FREE-TRADE ZONE
Indonesian Trade and Industry Minister, Ms. Rini
Soewandi has recently said that Batam is expected to
become a free-trade zone this year and thereby attract
investment. Ms. Rini Soewandi further added that draft
law will be presented to the House of Representatives.
Ms. Rini said that turning Batam into a free-trade zone
was one of the government’s efforts in inviting foreign
investors, she added that there would be some facilities
granted by the government for expatriates, including the
visa-free facility for short visits besides certain
exemptions in tax and customs procedures. The
Minister of Industry and Trade, Ms. Rini Soewandi also
said that Batam’s new status, Indonesia would also be
able to benefit from the Free Trade Agreement the US
and Singapore are planning to conclude in the near
future. The US Trade Representative, Mr. Robert B.
Zoellick and Singapore’s, Minister for Industry and
Trade, Mr. BG George Yeo recently visited Batam and
Bintan Island and discussed their plan to conclude a
Free Trade Agreement which is expected to benefit
business sectors in the Indonesian Islands as well. The
US and Singapore had also agreed to involve Indonesia
in their bilateral agreement. In Batam there are 530
foreign investment companies (PMAs) operating with
total investment of US $3.2 billion, some 60 to 70 new
investors are expected to enter Batam island and
hopefully create jobs for 40,000 people in the near
future.
BATAM TO HAVE MODERN WTC
The Batam Authority is constructing a World Trade
Center building as a promotion center for Batam’s
investment opportunities and tourism industry. The
setting up of 2000-square-meter center, which would

stand beside Batam international harbour would be
designed as modern as Singapore’s World Trade
Center, to be used as a promotion center of
domestic and foreign potential products.
INVESTMENTS IN BATAM
INCREASES TO US$26.3 MILLION
The value of investments in Batam during the period
of January to March 2002 increased to US $26.3
million, 21 percent higher than the figure of the
same period of year 2001. The Batam Authority
spokesman Mr. Fatullah said that the foreign
investors interest in developing their businesses in
the region was high because of the availability of
supporting facilities, including international airport
and harbour as well as clean water, electricity and
transportation.
SHRIMP EXPORTS FROM YOGYAKARTA
Yogyakarta’s governor, Sultan Hamengkubuwono X
recently opened Indokor’s plant and cold storage
unit that is capable of processing 1,200 metric tons
of shrimp annually for export to the United States,
Hong Kong and several other countries. Sultan
Hamengkubuwo added that the investment made by
Indokor and its success in exporting its products
indicated Yogyakarta’s favorable conditions for
investors. The plant, which is part of integrated
shrimp aquaculture project being developed by PT
Indokor Indonesia through its subsidiary PT
Indokor Dayamina, is equipped with ultra violet
sterilization and ozone treatment to process shrimps
to meet the stringent quality standards set by the
Unites States Food and Drug Administration.
Indokor’s President, Tony Agus Ardie said that the
facilities would help local shrimp farmers and small
business to meet the quality standards required by
consumers in the developed countries, thereby
contributing greatly to boosting shrimp exports from
Yogyakarta. Mr. Tong Agus Ardie further added that
with an annual capacity of 1,200 tons, that is
expandable to 2,400 tons, the plant is able to process
shrimps from farmers in six districts in Yogyakarta.
RI-CHINA TO BOOST RESEARCH
COOPERATION
Indonesia and China will improve cooperation in the
field of scientific research to support industrial
growth in the two countries. Indonesian State
Minister for research and technology, Mr. Hatta
Rajasa said that both the countries have agreed to

develop research and science cooperation in various
sectors which are potential for Indonesia and China. Mr.
Hatta Rajasa added that in the recently held meeting of
two countries on President Megawati’s working visit to
China three important sectors which are the most
prospective to be developed were discussed in the
meeting. Firstly, both countries have agree to develop
research in biotechnology, including food technology
development. Secondly, to conduct research for pascaharvest technology, including agricultural industry.
Thirdly, research in the field of medicine and traditional
pharmacy.
CHINA TO BUILD
PHOSPHATE PLANT IN INDONESIA
The China investor plans to build a phosphate fertilizer
plant in Indonesia. The country has no company
producing phosphate fertilizer yet . The Chinese
investor also plans to built a factory to produce
agriculture machines. The two countries have agreed to
promote economic relations. Cooperation in the
agribusiness sector will cover the upstream and down
stream sectors of the industry. China has agreed to
cooperate in the development of hybrid rice seeds,
pesticide industry, compound fertilizer industry, farm
machine manufacturing and animal feed production.
Under an agreement, China will import urea from
Indonesia and Indonesia will import phosphate fertilizer
from that country.
RI-US NEGOTIATING
TARIFF EXEMPTION FOR FOOTWEAR
Indonesian Footwear businessmen are conducting an
intensive negotiation with American businessmen on a
reciprocal import tariff exemption on footwear. The
Secretary General of Indonesian Footwear Association
(Aprisindo), Mr. Djimanto said that the exemption is
aimed at increasing competitiveness of Indonesian
Footwear in US market. The Secretary General further
added that Indonesia currently imposes import tariff of
12% while US imposes 11%. Secretary General said
that the negotiation was so far in the level of inter
industry (private) through the Association and the result
will subsequently be proposed to each government. He
added that if free bilateral trade between Indonesia and
US realized, it would benefit domestic industry since US
has been the main destination country for Indonesian
Footwear export. Of the total footwear export worth
US $1.6 billion per year, about US $1.4 billion of which
is being exported to America, while US exports to
Indonesia is only about US $160 million.

RI TO EXPLORE OIL AND GAS IN IRAQ
Indonesia and Iraq has recently agreed to cooperate
in exploration of oil and natural gas in Iraq Western
Desert region of 10,000 km2.. The cooperation
agreement was signed by Indonesian Energy and
Mineral Resources Minister, Mr. Purnomo
Yusgiantoro and Iraqi Oil Minister, Mr. Amer
Mohammed Rashid. Mr. Purnomo Yusgiantoro said
that the signing of exploration agreement will give
the new strength for Indonesia and Iraq in oil and
gas sectors. Besides the cooperation in oil and
exploration, Indonesia and Iraq also signed
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in
economic and technical cooperation between the
two countries.
VIETNAM-INDONESIA TRADE VALUE TO
REACH US $2 BILLION
According to the Chairman of Indonesian Chamber
of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Mr. Aburizal
Bakrie recently announced that the value of bilateral
trade between Vietnam and Indonesia will soon
reach US $2 billion. Speaking at the IndonesiaVietnam Trade Forum held in Ho Chi Minh City
recently, Mr. Aburizal Bakrie added that the two
countries` trade value increased to nearly US $ 600
million last year from US $ 520 million in 2000.
Fifteen leading Indonesian businesses were present

PERTAMINA BOOSTS PTA PRODUCTION.
Pertamina has boosted the production of
terephthalic acid (PTA) from its Plaju plant in South
Sumatra. This year it plans to increase production by
52.5% to 183,000 tons from 1120,m000 tons last
year. PTA is a feedstock for polyester fiber needed
by textile industry. Indonesia now has five PTA
producers with a total annual installed capacity of 2
million tons. The four other producers are PT
Mistsubishi Chemical, PT Amoco Mitsui PTA
Indonesia, PT Polyprima Karyareksa and PT
Polysindo Eka Perkasa. Last year, the Plaju plant of
Pertamina operated only at 53.3% of its installed
capacity. This year it hope to increase the capacity
utilization to 81.3%.

CULTURAL MISSION OF
THE GOVERNMENT OF BADUNG REGENCY
IN CONJUNCTION WITH PATA CONFERENCE IN NEW DELHI
& AND ROAD SHOW IN MUMBAI
The Balinese art team of 46 artists from the Badung
Regency recently participated in the 51st PATA
Annual Conference “Tourism-Looking Ahead and
Beyond” held in New Delhi from April 14-18, 2002.
The Troupe was accompanied by the Governor of
Bali, Mr. Dewa Made Beratha who attended the
conference. Mr. Dewa Made Beratha was also
scheduled to meet the Indian Prim Minister, Mr. Atal
Behari Vajpayee, while visiting temples in some
Indian cities, such as Rishikesh, Haridwar in
Utarranchal, Bhubaneswar in Orissa, and Chennai in
Tamil Nadu.
At the closing ceremony of PATA conference, the Balinese Troupe presented a medley of dance “The
colours of the Archipelago” in collaborations with the Ministry of Art, Cultural and Tourism of the Republic
of Indonesia and the “Belaganjur Bandana Jaya” dance accompanied by Balinese music portraying the
energetic Indonesian youths to the dynamic moving towards Globalization enhancing the Tourism World
Industry.
The Balinese Troupe also performed in Mumbai at
Y.B. Chavan Auditorium on April 20, 2002. The
programme had participation of Government
Officials, Consular corps based in mumbai, leading
travel and tour operators, travel agents, local dance
academy, Consulate Officials, Members of India
Indonesia Friendship Society (IIFS) & India
Indonesia Business Association (IIBA), members of
Dharma Wanita and some special invitees. The
programme started with welcome speech from Mr.
Hidayat Atjeh, Vice Consul – Indonesian Consulate
General, Mumbai followed by handing over of
bouquet from Madame Zaiwil Wisnatetty Rahardjo
wife of Indonesian Consul General, Mumbai to the
group members of the Balinese Troupe.
The Group Leader of the Balinese troupe was presented with an Ancient Classic Panchatantra by Ms. Jyoti
Daryanani and Mr. G.L. Chandiramani, the same has been translated by Ms. Jyoti Daryanani in Indonesia
with the help of Mr. G.L. Chandiramani and has been printed by Dian Rakyat in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In Mumbai the Balinese Troupe performed different programme of dance and music which included Sekar
Jagat Dance, Baris Dance, Cendrawasih dance, Oleg Tamulilingan, Barong and Monkey dance followed by
the Colours of the Archipelago.

linese artists performed at PATA conference
DENPASAR (indo.com): A Balinese art team of 46 artists from the Badung regency has
recently performed at the annually Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Conference
2002 in New Delhi, India. They performed there from April 14 to 18, 2002.
The art team also performed in Mumbay (formerly Bombay), the capital city of
Maharastra State, before returning to Indonesia on April 22, 2002 as stated on the Press
Attache of RI Embassy in New Delhi.
In Mumbay, the musical and dance artists performed in the session of "Malam
Indonesia" (Indonesian Night), one of the closing shows at the PATA Conference at
Nehru Center, New Delhi. The show also announced that Indonesia would host the next
PATA Conference.
The Governor of Bali, Dewa Made Beratha was one of the Indonesian functionaries who
attended the conference. Governor Beratha is also scheduled to meet the Prime Minister
of India, Atal Behari Vajpayee, while visiting temples in some Indian cities, such as
