D2L Version 10.0 Features Version 10.0 contains significant user interface changes for a more engaging and intuitive experience for all users. There are also new features and functions in the Dropbox, Discussions, and Grades tools. Structured and Streamlined Layout When you access the new My Home and Course Home pages, you’ll notice a new layout that centers widgets in a 960 pixel area. This layout creates a clean, appealing look that focuses attention on the most important information. New D2L My Home page The layout updates include: Updating the default page layout to the 960 pixel grid, while maintaining full screen views in pages. Reorganizing tool navigation by moving the left-side Tool Areas panels to the top of the tool pages Removing Instructions panels and adding help directly on the page next to fields and controls with which the user is interacting Updating the styling and placement of top tool actions so redundant navigation options are removed, primary actions are emphasized and sometimes grouped for easy access Adding visible labels to group action icons to improve usability for new users. Displaying field labels above the field or section for better alignment and ease of completion. Standardizing the placement and display of Save/Cancel buttons at the bottom left of tool pages Old View of Manage Content in 9.4.1 New View of Manage Content in 10.0 New Navigation Minibar A new navigation minibar is now at the top of every page. This minibar enables users to switch between courses and access their Profile, Account Settings, and receive alerts. New Minibar showing Course Selector and Personal Options ** We recommend that instructors “pin” their current semester courses within the course selector dropdown (shown above) for easy access. The reason is, that if you collapse your previous terms in the My Courses widget, they do not remain collapsed. This issue is expected to be fixed in a future release. Notifications for Students Notifications are available in the “Update Alerts” area of the minibar for instructors and students. Instructors will get News alerts regarding the D2L system and students will get alerts for News, Grades, Quizzes and Dropboxes (see below). As students are working in one course, they can monitor activity in other courses via Alerts. New Workflow for Publishing Dropbox Feedback In previous releases, as soon as feedback was entered and saved for a student’s Dropbox submission, that feedback was immediately available to students. Now instructors can withhold feedback so they can review and revise grades, comments, and attachments. Dropbox Submission Leave Feedback Display Dropbox Publish Feedback for Selected Users “Must Post-First” option in Discussions A new option in Discussions now enables you to enforce students to post first before reading others’ posts. This option is available when creating or editing topics. Student View of Must Post-First Discussions Option One-click access to tool items and submissions from Grades This version includes a number of changes to the Enter Grades pages providing instructors with useful indicators of the current state of student submission and access to student submissions through icons and links. These changes will save instructors time and make it easier to navigate from Grades directly into properties or student submissions within assessment tools. New View Submissions Options in Grades Also, when instructors Export Grades from the Enter Grades page, they can now choose to export in either.csv format or .xlsx format (Microsoft Excel). ** The course navigation bar does not display on the Enter Grades page anymore. To access other tools in the course, click on Manage Grades, the course name on the minibar (see below), or use your browser’s back arrow. Streamlined Content Creation Steps Time-saving improvements have been made in Manage Content to streamline the creation of content and quicklinks. Actions for creating content have been included in a single button (Add Content) with a dropdown, enabling the action selection right from the main page. Also, a new Add Quicklink button with a context menu has been added to streamline the quicklink creation process. Calendar Updates The Calendar tool now displays in a two-column layout. In addition, the following changes have been made to the Calendar tool: Calendars for all current courses where the user is explicitly enrolled are added and enabled by default When deleting a repeating event, options are available to delete the series, the current occurrence, or the current occurrence and future occurrences Task headings now indicate the number of incomplete tasks Redesigned Course Administration Tool The Course Administration tool, accessed though the Edit Course navigation bar link, has been redesigned to enable easy access to many more tools. Instructors can sort the links on this page by category or name. View of the Course Administration Tool
