The Hungry Giant’s Birthday Cake Story by Joy Cowley Illustrations by Mary Bausman 트랙 2 Oh Gee~ I’ll never get it. It’s ruined. Oh! Hello, girls and boys? What am I doing? Oh, nothing really. No, I’m not unhappy. What makes you think that? No. Actually, I’m very happy. Look at the cover of your book and you can see why. In fact, open up your book and place the pages down in front of you so you can see the front and back cover at the same time. And tell me what you see. That’s right! There is my birthday cake. Can you read what is written on the cake? Happy birthday, hungry giant! Very good! Can you read the title of today’s story? Good again. ‘The hungry giant’s birthday cake’. And as you might have guessed, I am the hungry giant. Mrs. Giant calls me Hungry. But you’ll find that out in a few moments. As I said, I’m not unhappy, really it’s just that well, oh, I can’t talk about it. Let’s bring our storyteller in here to read my tale for today and as I said it’s called ‘The hungry giant’s birthday cake’. I want you to follow along looking at all the pictures and words in our story and listen for this sound. [Diling doong]. When you hear it, it’s your signal to turn the page. Now, what do you say? Let’s get started. 트랙 3 * Narrator reads the story. (본책 내용) 트랙 4 Oh Gee~Ah~ Good. You’re back! Hopefully now, everything will get better or at least, I hope so. Oh, I know. I have nothing to be sad about because as you’ve just read, I’ve had a wonderful birthday, complete with birthday cake. But you see, the problem is, well, oh never mind. Let’s get back to our story. And by the way, you are wonderful readers. I noticed that. Boys and girls, we are going to read the story again. This time, actors will perform the reading for us, complete with music and sound effects. I think you’ll really like this. As the actors are performing, I want you to follow along with them, reading as many of the words as possible. You’ll find our story may have some new words that you haven’t read before but follow along anyway. And try the new words right along with the actors. This time we will start from the title page of your book, which rests right inside of the front cover. Turn there now. You’ll see two mice looking at a piece of paper. A scroll of some kind. I can’t quite tell what it is. Can you? Oh well. We’ll have a fun time anyway. As you re reading, listen for this sound. [Diling doong]. And turn the page, each time you hear it. Now, from the title page, let’s begin! 트랙 5 * Narrator and actors read the story. (본책 내용) 트랙 6 Great job everyone! You read every word, didn’t you? Tremendous! Well, despite the fact that I am just a little bit frustrated, and it is something I don’t want to get into right now, we’re going to have a fun time. I have a special task for you to perform during the next reading of our story. Are you ready? Here’s what we are going to do. As I’m sure you noticed during the last reading, Mrs.Giant and I had a couple of conversations. And there are many new words in our stories as well. I’m going to have you say what is inside of the speech marks and also, to fill in some missing words. So, you’ll have something to do on every page. Turn to page 13 in your book and I’ll show you an example of what I want you to do. All right. On page 13, you’ll hear the narrator say, ‘The hungry giant rumbled and –beep(sound)-. He roared and –beep(sound)-.’’ And you’ll fill in the words mumbled and grumbled. Next the narrator will say, ‘Finally he said’ and then you will say what is inside of the speech marks. Like this. “Oh, all right, But I hope there’s enough for me.”(all together). See what I mean? On some pages, you’ll only say what is inside of the speech marks. On other pages, you’ll only fill in the missing words. And on still other pages like page 13, you will do both. Now, I know this may sound a little difficult but if you pay attention, I think you will do just fine. Now, turn back to the title page and we’ll get going. 트랙 7 * Narrator and actors read the story. (본책 내용) 트랙 8 Oh, oh ,oh! What a wonderful job you all did! Excellent readers! Okay, okay. You were right. I’m a little upset. Here’s the story. I don’t know how to make a birthday cake. Huh? What are saying? That piece of paper on the title page is a recipe for a birthday cake? Oh, wonderful! Now I can use it to make MY cake. Thanks boys and girls. Now I’m all happy again and I feel like listening to a song. So long! 트랙 9 [Song] Mrs.Giant said Hungry, my dear What would you like for your birthday this year? A giant cherry cake, that weights a ton Just for me I don’t want to share with anyone Then Mrs.Giant began to make A giant cherry birthday cake A giant birthday cake That weighed a ton “How sweet!” she said “There will be cake for everyone” It took a mountain of flour A hill of sugar A pond of butter As golden as a sun A thousand hens gave a thousand eggs A hundred cherry trees gave their cherries everyone Big mixing trucks mixed the cherry cake A big bunch of bakers began to bake They wrote on top when the cake was done Happy Birthday, Hungry Giant Then it was time for fun Then Mrs.Giant said Hungry, my dear The time to share your cake is here The hungry giant said No. It’s all for me Mrs.Giant said Hungry, can’t you see? It takes a lot of sharing and preparing And people caring to make a party fun Friends have come from far and near There’s plenty here. Come and share with everyone The hungry giant said Oh, okay. I guess this is a special day. They all had fun When they were done The hungry giant said Hey, listen everyone It took a lot of sharing and preparing And people carrying to make my party fun Let’s do it all again Tomorrow my friends The party never ends In fact it’s just begun Hurray! Happy Birthday, Hungry Giant Woo hoo!
