INSTITUTIONAL PROFILE
The Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) is a Flagship University located in Mombasa County, set along the expansive
shores of the beautiful and magnificent Indian Ocean and overlooking the famous Tudor Creek. The University, which
boasts of unique architecture depicting the rich historical influences and developments of the region, has transformed from
Mombasa Institute of Muslim Education in 1948; Mombasa Technical Institute in 1966; Mombasa Polytechnic in 1972;
Mombasa Polytechnic University College in 2007; and finally its current status in 2013.
It’s dynamism in managerial and academic leadership has seen this prestigious University offer courses in certificate,
diploma and degree awards in Engineering, Science, Business and Technology.
In order to actuate its vision, and be an active player in realization of the Vision 2030, the following positions are meant to
strengthen the University’s capacity for effective and efficient service delivery.
A:
ACADEMIC DIVISION
A1: FACULTY OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY
A1.1 DEPARTMENT OF BUILDING AND CIVIL ENGINEERING
POSITION: Graduate Assistant– Grade 10A: REF NO. TUM/ADVERT/HRM/A1.1/GA/5/2015: 1 Post
REQUIREMENTS: Must have at least a Second Class (Upper Division) Bachelor’s Degree in Civil and Building Engineering.
Must be ready to register for a Masters Degree. Must be registered with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK). Must not be
more than thirty five (35) years of age.
JOB SUMMARY Teaching and supervision of Diploma and Certificate students and initiating research projects in the
relevant disciplines.
A2: SCHOOL OF BUSINESS STUDIES
A2.1 DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE
POSITION: Lecturer – Grade 12A: REF NO. TUM/ADVERT/HRM/A2.1/L/5/2015: 1 Post
REQUIRMENTS: Must possess a PhD in Finance, Accounting, Banking or related area. Must have at least five (5) years of
teaching experience at a University or Research Institute, of which three (3) years must have been as Assistant Lecturer or
Research Fellow. Affiliation to an appropriate professional body will be an added advantage. Must have published in
refereed journals.
JOB SUMMARY: Teaching at both undergraduate and post graduate levels, supervision of graduate students and initiating
research projects in the relevant disciplines.
A2.2 DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
POSITION: Lecturer – Grade 12A: REF NO. TUM/ADVERT/HRM/A2.2/L/5/2015: 1 Post
REQUIRMENTS: Must possess a PhD in Marketing, Business Administration (Marketing Option) or its equivalent from a
recognized University. Must have at least five (5) years of teaching experience at a University or Research Institute, of
which three (3) years must have been as Assistant Lecturer or Research Fellow. Affiliation to an appropriate professional
body will be an added advantage. Must have published in refereed journals.

A3: SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES
A3.1 DEPARTMENT OF HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT
POSITION: Tutorial Fellow - Grade 11A: TUM/ADVERT/HRM/A3.1/TF/5/2015: 1 Post
REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a Masters Degree in Tourism Management. Must have at least two (2) years of
teaching/research experience at a University or Research Institution. Must be a registered a PhD student in the area of
specialization. Affiliation to an appropriate professional body and publication in refereed journals will be an added
advantage.
JOB SUMMARY: Teaching at undergraduate level, supervision of undergraduate students and initiating research projects in
the relevant disciplines.
A3.2 DEPARTMENT OF MEDIA STUDIES
POSITION: Technologist III– Grade 6N: REF NO. TUM/ADVERT/HRM/A3.2/TIII/5/2015:1 Post
REQUIRMENTS: Must possess EACE/KCSE/KCE/GCE academic Certificate OR equivalent. Must possesses Diploma in
Mass Communication OR equivalent qualification. Must have at least three (3) years relevant experience at Grade 5 OR
comparable position.
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for supporting lecturers in conducting practical sessions, maintenance and preparation of
practical equipment, specimen and samples; budgeting and coordinating acquisition of equipment for practicals.
A4: FACULTY OF APPLIED & HEALTH SCIENCES
A4.1 DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICS
POSITION: Tutorial Fellow - Grade 11A: TUM/ADVERT/HRM/A4.1/TF/5/2015: 1 Post
REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a Masters degree in EITHER the discipline of Applied Physics, Electronic &
Instrumentation, Renewable Energy or Environmental Physics. Must have at least two (2) years of teaching/research
experience at a University or Research Institution. Must be prepared to pursue PhD in the area of specialization.
JOB SUMMARY: Teaching at undergraduate level, supervision of graduate students and initiating research projects in the
relevant disciplines.
A4.2 DEPARTMENT OF PURE AND APPLIED SCIENCE
POSITION: Lecturer – Grade 12A: REF NO. TUM/ADVERT/HRM/A4.2/L/5/2015: 1 Post
REQUIRMENTS: Must possess a PhD in Biochemistry or Biotechnology. Must have at least five (5) years of teaching
experience at a University three (3) years of which must have been as Assistant Lecturer/Tutorial Fellow or Research
Fellow. Affiliation to an appropriate professional body will be an added advantage. Must have published in refereed
journals.

least two (2) years teaching of teaching/research experience at a University or Research Institution. Must be prepared to
pursue a PhD in the area of specialization. Affiliation to an appropriate professional body will be an added advantage.

A4.3 DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL SCIENCE
POSITION: Senior Technologist I – Grade 11N: REF NO. TUM/ADVERT/HRM/A4.3/STI/5/2015: 1 Posts (READVERTISEMENT)
REQUIRMENTS: Must EITHER possess Masters Degree in Pharmacy from a recognized institution. Must have at least
three (3) years experience at Grade 10 or comparable position OR Possess Bachelors Degree or Higher National Diploma in
Pharmacy or related area from a recognized institution and at least five (5) years experience at Grade 10 or comparable
position. Must be registered by the Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board (KPPB).
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for supporting lecturers in conducting practical sessions, maintenance and preparation of

ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS
N1.1 REGISTRAR (AA) OFFICE
POSITION: Registrar (AA) – Grade 14N: REF NO. TUM/ADVERT/HRM/N1.1/R (AA)/5/2015: 1 Post
REQUIREMENTS: Must EITHER possess a PhD in Social Sciences/Business Studies and at – least five (5) years’
experience as Deputy Registrar at Grade 14 or comparable position handling academic and students affairs. Must possess
relevant professional qualifications. Must also be affiliated to a relevant professional body. Must be computer literate. OR
Possess a Masters Degree in Social Sciences/ Business Studies and at least seven (7) years’ experience as Deputy
Registrar at Grade 14 or comparable position handling academic and student related affairs. Must possess relevant
professional qualifications. Must also be affiliated to a relevant professional body. Must be Computer Literate.
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (ARE), shall provide secretariat to the University Senate and
Deans Committee as well as coordinate Admissions, Examinations, Programmes and Training and Liaison activities in
Academic Division.
N1.2 ACCOMODATION DEPARTMENT
POSITION: Accommodation Manager – Grade 12N: REF NO.: TUM/ADVERT/HRM/N1.2/AM/5/2015 1 Post (READVERTISEMENT)
REQUIRMENTS: Must possess a Masters Degree in Institutional Management or relevant area from a recognized
Institution and at least three (3) years experience as Assistant Accommodation Manager at Grade 11 or comparable
position.
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible to the Dean of Students, shall be responsible for the management of Students
Accommodation Services of the University
N1.3 CATERING DEPARTMENT
POSITION: Catering Manager – Grade 12N: TUM/ADVERT/HRM/N1.3/CM/5/2015:1 Post (RE-ADVERTISEMENT)
REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a Masters Degree in Hospitality Management/Hotel Management or its equivalent from a
recognized Institution. Must have at least three (3) years experience as Assistant Catering Manager at Grade 11 or
comparable position. Must be Computer Literate.
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible to the Deans of Students, shall be in-charge of managing all student catering services in the
University.
N1.4 CENTRAL SERVICES
POSITION: Housekeeper II– Grade 5N: REF. NO.TUM/ADVERT/HRM/N1.4/HAII/5/2015:1 Post (RE-ADVERTISEMENT)
REQUIREMENTS: Must possess KCSE Certificate or equivalent. Must possess Diploma in Housekeeping OR Accommodation
Services OR equivalent from a recognized Institution. Must be Computer Literate. Must have at least three (3) years experience as
Housekeeping Assistant II at Grade 4 or comparable position.
JOB SUMMARY: Under the guidance of the Senior Housekeeper, supervise the cleaning of all offices and their environs
N1.5 ESTATES MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT
POSITION: Environmental Supervisor I – Grade 7N: TUM/ADVERT/HRM/N1.5/ESI/5/2015:1 Post (READVERTISMENT)
REQUIRMENTS: Must EITHER possess Higher Diploma in Ground Maintenance, Landscaping OR Exterior Designing
from a recognized Institution. Must have at least three (3) years experience as Environmental Supervisor II at Grade 6 or
comparable position OR Possess a Diploma in Ground Maintenance, Landscaping or Exterior Designing from a recognized
Institution and at least five (5) years experience at Grade 6 or comparable position.
JOB SUMMARY: Under the guidance of the Estates Manager, supervise all environmental and ground maintenance
activities in the Institution.
N1.6 HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT-KIZIWI HOTEL
POSITION: Hotel Superintendent I– Grade 8N: TUM/ADVERT/HRM/N1.6/SI/5/2015:1 Post
REQUIRMENTS: Must possess Bachelor’s Degree/Higher Diploma in Hospitality & Tourism Management OR equivalent from a
recognized Institution. Must be Computer literate.
JOB SUMMARY: Under the guidance of the Hotel Manager supervise operations in Food Production, House-keeping, and
Restaurant among others.

N1.7 UNIVERSITY LIBRARY
POSITION Senior Library Assistant II – Grade 9N: TUM/ADVERT/HRM/N1.7/SLA II/5/2015: 1 Post
REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a Degree in Library & Information Studies or equivalent from a recognized University.
Must have at least three (3) years experience as a Senior Library Assistant III in Grade 8 or comparable position in a busy,
computerized, academic library setting. Must demonstrate advanced knowledge of modern library management systems
with at least three (3) years experience with KOHA. Evidence of advanced knowledge of open source library applications
including Linux, PERL, and PHP will be an added advantage
JOB SUMMARY: Perform IT related library functions, teach information literacy and provide technological support to
library users and staff, perform other library duties.
