IEEE and the Korean Society of Automotive Engineers have announced that the two organisations

Routledge to sponsor three National Literacy Trust publications

IDC raises shipment forecast for media tablets to 62.5 million units in 2011

Worldwide media tablet shipments rose 303.8 percent year over year in 2Q11 to 13.6 million units,
according to IDC. Further, IDC has raised its shipment forecast for 2011 to 62.5 million units, up
from a previous projection of 53.5 million units.

University libraries and German SCOAP3 partners meet to discuss OA in High Energy Physics
Representatives of university libraries recently met with representatives of the German SCOAP3
partners - TIB, Max-Planck-Society und Helmholtz Association - for a workshop at TIB in Hannover.
The international consortium SCOAP3 (Sponsoring Consortium for Open Access Publishing in Particle
Physics) seeks to convert high quality High Energy Physics journals to Open Access journals of the
golden road.

French publishers drop $14 million book-scanning lawsuit against Google
French publishers Editions Albin Michel, Editions Gallimard and Flammarion have reportedly dropped
a $13.8 million lawsuit against Google over books scanned by the company. With this move, the
publishers seek to resume negotiations to reach a deal on scanning copyright-protected works for
Google's digital library.

HathiTrust, US universities sued over digitisation of orphan works
The Authors Guild, the Australian Society of Authors, the Union Des Ecrivaines et des Ecrivains
Quebecois and eight individual authors recently filed a copyright infringement lawsuit in federal
court against HathiTrust and five universities over their plans to digitise over 7 million orphan
works. These include the University of Michigan, the University of California, the University of
Wisconsin, Indiana University and Cornell University.

Library Copyright Alliance raises concern over lawsuit against HathiTrust and partners
The Library Copyright Alliance has stated concern over the Authors Guild's decision to file a lawsuit
against HathiTrust and its research library partners. The case has no merit, and completely
disregards the rights of libraries and their users under the law, the LCA says.

EBSCO has announced an agreement with HathiTrust allowing for full text searching of HathiTrust
content within EDS. Through EDS, users can search HathiTrust's collection of 8.5 million digitalised

of EDS.
