Roger Johnson's Presentation
For nearly 85 years, Los Angeles International Airport
(LAX) has been leading Los Angeles to the future creating jobs, driving our local economy, connecting
the Los Angeles region to the world, and the world to
Los Angeles. LAneXt™, the capital improvement
program, is literally the "next" chapter in the story of
LAX. With over $4.11 billion in completed or on-going
projects, and billions more planned in the future to
complete the vision, LAneXt™ is easily the largest
public works program in the history of the City of Los
Angeles.
The centerpiece of LAneXt™ is the new Tom Bradley
International Terminal (New TBIT), which will provide
the Los Angeles region the world-class transportation
facility it deserves. New TBIT will feature a Great Hall
with 150,000 square feet of premium retail, dining,
luxury lounges and other amenities for the traveling
public. New TBIT also will have 18 new boarding
gates - of which nine will be capable of handling
larger, new-generation aircraft. The first newgeneration-aircraft gate is scheduled to open later this
year.
Additionally, there are several major airfield and
facility projects in planning or underway that support
the program. These include a new Central Utility
Plant, new taxiways and taxi lanes, and renovations to
other terminals.
Tour
The bus will be taking us around the airfield, focusing
on the new construction at TBIT. This behind-thescenes tour of LAX will allow us an airfield view of the
New TBIT currently under construction and several
completed projects including the Los Angeles Fire
Department's new Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting
(ARFF) station. Bob Werner, who will be giving the
bus tour, has worked for the airport for several years
and knows about all of the new construction projects
at the airport. Bob will go through the timelines, for
example, when is the opening date, what have been
some of the hold ups, etc. We may even get to see
one of the new A380s.
