We have had a wonderful week at Tuggerawong Public School this week, being able to celebrate a lot of student success. The week began with the news of our wonderful

Aboriginal artists winning the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's

Day Indigenous Art Competition. Congratulations to Brayden and Lachlan Wilcox, Lachlan

Melinz, Monique Blackborrow, Kaitlyn and Samantha Godfrey, Faith Drylie, Harry Coulten and Caiden Holloway-Gibbs.

Then on Monday we had Eli and Rochelle compete so well at the Sydney North Athletics carnival.

On Tuesday we heard news that both our boys and girls touch football teams had a victory and have progressed to the next round of the state PSSA knockout competition.

On Thursday four of our spellers competed in the zone finals of the Premiers Spelling Bee.

Congratulations to Carlos De La Pena Raez, Jack Perry, Raj Vij and Alejandra De La Pena

Raez, you did our school very proud.

I am extremely impressed to see our students perform so well in such a wide range of activities.

CONCERT

It is amazing to see all the hard work starting to pay off from the students and teachers in preparation for the school performance this week. The students have rehearsed beautifully and are set for three wonderful performances this week.

The students have put so much time and effort into practising lines, dances and choral performances.

A huge thank you to Mrs Day who has put the whole performance together, with the unrelenting support of the rest of the staff. It is the dedication and effort from everyone involved that has made this experience possible for our wonderful students and I

SCHOOL SECURITY – 1300 880 021

am sure it is something the students will remember for the rest of their lives as a highlight of their primary school years.

I look forward to seeing you all at our performances this week.

SCHOOL DATES

This coming weekend will mark the beginning of two weeks holidays for our school. I thank our entire school community for your support in welcoming me to my first term at

Tuggerawong Public School and will see you all when students return to school on

Tuesday, 6 October.

SCHOOL HOLIDAY AND ROAD SAFETY REMINDER

With the school holidays approaching, daily routines will soon change. Different play locations and holiday destinations means different traffic environments.

So to help keep our children safe, families are reminded about these key road safety points:

 Stop, look, listen, think every time you cross the road.

If your child is aged 8 years or younger hold their hand when walking near or across roads.

If your child is 9-10 years old always actively supervise them.

 It’s the law that everyone wears a helmet when riding a bike in a public place.

It makes sense to wear a helmet when riding scooters and skateboards too!

 Click clack front ‘n back every person for every trip.

Everyone in the car must be securely buckled up in the right seatbelt or child restraint.

 Talk to your child about being a safe road user.

Reinforce safe road behaviours by being a good role model! Children learn safe road behaviours from the adults who care for them. Talk about what you are doing to be safe when near roads, in the car and when riding.

 Point out road safety differences and dangers in new environments.

This is especially important when on holidays in different surroundings. Roads, footpaths, parks, carparks, bike tracks and bike lanes may look different in holiday areas.

The best way to keep your child safe is to actively supervise them.

Talk and teach your child about road safety every time you are out an about.

Remind other adults who care for your children to do this too.

You can find out more at:

 Safety Town

 Department of Education

 Transport for NSW

Have a safe holiday break!

Wow, what a wonderful term we have had. The students have improved so much in their reading and writing! Please try to keep reading throughout the holidays and try to fit in some Mathletics too!

I can’t wait to see our little superstars at the concert this week! It has been lots of fun rehearsing and I’m sure they can’t wait to show you their cool moves.

Thank you to the parents that have helped in groups throughout the term. I really appreciate the time and effort you have given.

Have a fabulous holiday, stay safe and keep smiling 

It’s arrived! CONCERT Week! It’s going to be a very busy week, so there will be no

Homework sheet this week. Hopefully you can still fit in Home Reading though please, and remember this can continue through the holidays too.

We are all very excited about the concert and the rehearsals have been lots of fun. I will send the costumes home on Wednesday after the matinee performance so that children can come dressed ready to go. If you are coming for the BBQ, can I please ask that the children wear another shirt until after they have eaten please. At the evening performances the girls need their hair out please.

Children need to be in the holding rooms by 5.45pm. This will be the Year1 and 2 rooms.

This is also where you pick your child up from after the show. No child should leave directly from the hall for safety reasons.

We had a great walk around the neighbourhood recently. It was wonderful that some parents could come and explore with us. It was great to see some things that are so close to us that sometimes we miss in our busy lives. It was fun.

Thank you so much to everyone who has helped and supported us all this term. The children are all trying their best and have learnt so much.

Have a great break

Hi all

We are in our final week of term 3, and this week is going to be very busy! The students will be having a full dress rehearsal on Tuesday, so please make sure that your child is wearing comfortable shoes and if you haven’t sent in a cap for them to wear please send one in. We performed in front of the school last week, and 1S look forward to performing it for everyone at the concert!!

As the holidays are approaching, I will be sending some completed work home with students in order to have more space for the new learning next term. Please continue to read with your child at home over the break, it is so important for them to retain what they have been learning at school. Your child is welcome to take some books from school to read over the holidays, however reading material that you have at home is also great.

I hope that everyone has a nice break and I look forward to another great term when we return. If you have any questions or concerns please pop in and see me!

Thanks Mrs Stephens

Welcome to week 10! What a busy week ahead! Due to the school concert, students will not have any homework sheets this week. During the holidays, students should continue to read and complete their home reading diary.

A reminder note was sent home on Friday outlining all the details for the school concert. If you have any questions please come and speak with us.

We have been learning about 3D shapes in Maths and been writing all about the school concert.

Have a safe and relaxing break,

Mrs Towns and Mrs Melvin.

INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS AND ASSESSMENTS FOR

SCHOOLS 2015

Congratulations to the wonderful Tuggerawong students who met the challenge to enter this year’s Writing and Spelling Competitions. These competitions can be very demanding, but can give great feedback to students about areas of their strengths and ways they can improve. Our students performed well and are to be commended for their efforts.

In Writing we had 9 entrants. All students showed they are developing good writing skills.

Participation Award: Monique Quinlan, Ria Vij, Jessica Hooke, Kynan Reeves, Kalaye Lees,

Raj Vij, Nathan Mapson and Penina Taula

Special congratulations to Monique Blackborrow who received a Credit Award.

TUGGERAWONG PUBLIC SCHOOL OOSH NEWS

Hello from Oosh, we cannot believe how fast this term has gone, school holidays are next week! If you haven’t returned your vacation care booking form, please do as ASAP as our days are filling. Monday, 21 September, Tuesday, 22

September and Wednesday, 23 September are already full.

On Wednesday, 9 September Rhiannon and Ash attended InformationSsession with Dr

John Irvine an educational psychologist, a consultant psychologist, a counsellor and widely recognised specialist on children’s behaviour, he is the author of significant books for parents such as “A Handbook for Happy Families.” This information night was based on how to deal with children and technology, the positives and negatives of technology. We received a lot of information on this and we will be sharing this in our parent library as well as a newsletter for parents with this helpful information. One interesting point that was raised was * No technology before class; when children interact with games, they are getting a continual positive reward from the game. When they go into class, they are one of 25 and are not able to get the continual positive rewards from the teacher, therefore setting the teacher up for failure…
