PARTICIPATION AND ATTENDANCE In order to succeed in this course, students must attend class (and any scheduled Friday events) on a regular basis. Attendance records will be kept and will count toward your grade. Students are expected to come to each class prepared to engage in an active discussion of course material. Individual classes will be conducted as seminars and participation is essential to each student's success as well as the overall success of the class. BUSINESS PLAN PROJECT An important component of this course is that students learn to work in teams. Each team will develop and present a business plan for a fictitious company connected to the athletic shoe, apparel, and equipment industry. This major effort must involve all team members. Throughout the semester, there will be a number of team writing assignments that each focuses on a separate section of the business plan. Students are expected to make positive contributions to each of these team efforts as well as the final version of the business plan. The business plans will be presented to the class before the Thanksgiving break and a final written version of the plan will be due shortly thereafter. The team grade assigned to the business plan project will be based on the quality of the business plan prepared by the team and the team presentation of the business plan. Grades of individual team members on the business plan project can be different from the team grade. Individual grades earned on the business plan project can vary depending on the contribution made to the project by each team member. Input in deciding individual contributions will include evaluations of each 2 member of the team by all other team members. Additional input on individual contributions to the project will come from evaluations of team members by the team’s apprentice teacher.
