Scrip - Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is scrip? Gift certificates and cards for specific merchants.
2. How does Beaumont make money from scrip? The school is able to buy scrip at a
discounted price. When you purchase scrip at face value, the school profits between 4%-30%
(depending on the discount offered by the merchant). Scrip is a dollar for dollar exchange and
costs you nothing. Beaumont gets the store discount.
3. Why can’t I use my credit card to purchase Scrip? Credit card companies charge 2+% to
process a transaction. If we accepted credit cards, our profit margin would be substantially
reduced.
4. Does Scrip expire? There is no expiration date for most scrip certificates or cards. If you
would like a list of specific expiration policies, request it with your order, or call the scrip
coordinator.
5. Do I get change back? Merchants that use debit cards (Fred Meyer, New Seasons, Starbucks,
etc) simply keep the balance on your card until you use it again. Stores that accept scrip like
cash will give change back. A list of specific “change back policies” is available from the scrip
coordinator. You can make it easy by purchasing scrip in the denomination that best suits your
needs.
6. Is scrip only for Portland area merchants? No. Many scrip cards can be spent at any of the
store’s locations in the US (Gap, Pottery Barn, Sears, Barnes and Noble, Safeway, etc…). Scrip is
a quick and easy gift idea for out-of-town friends and relatives!
7. Can I recycle my used scrip cards? Yes! Simply cut used cards in half and enclose with your
scrip order. We take care of the rest.
8. How do I get started?

Make sure you have filled out a ‘Beaumont Scrip Release Form.’ We must have a signed


would like. Orders must be accompanied by either a check payable to Beaumont PTA, or
cash ($25 fee for all returned checks).

Put the Scrip Order form and check in an envelope marked " Beaumont Scrip". You will be
given a reusable scrip envelope with your first order.

A scrip representative will be in front of the school office each Monday morning to accept
scrip orders. You or your student can drop your order off prior to the start of school.
Additionally, orders will be accepted in the office on Mondays until 4 pm. If there is no class
on Monday, scrip will be collected on the first school day of that week, but must be turned in
by 9:30 am

Starting after school on Thursday, scrip will be available for pick up in the school office.

Beaumont Scrip Is Back!
Our scrip program returns Monday, September 13
Scrip is a dollar for dollar exchange for gift cards and certificates accepted at places you already shop.
There is no cost to you! Simply purchase scrip cards from the Beaumont PTA for groceries, clothing,
coffee, movie tickets and whatever you’re buying anyway. We purchase the cards at a discount and
keep the difference. The merchant makes the donation to Beaumont, and you get full face value of your
purchase.
Scrip is a wonderful way to raise needed money for our school. All of the money raised by scrip stays at
Beaumont. It is a fund raising program that is tried and proven at many other schools, not only in
Portland but across the country. Please help us to increase the resources available to the Beaumont
students by participating.
Last year the Beaumont PTA Scrip Program raised over $6000 !
Here’s how:


Ordering begins Monday morning, September 13 and continues every week of school.
Make sure you have filled out a ‘Beaumont Scrip Release Form.’ We must have a signed
release form included with your first order.

Fill out the Scrip Order Form with the scrip you wish to buy, noting which denominations you
would like. Orders must be accompanied by either a check payable to Beaumont PTA, or
cash. ($25 fee for all returned checks).

Put the Scrip Order form and payment in an envelope marked " Beaumont Scrip ". Your first
order will be returned in a reusable Manila scrip envelope to use with subsequent orders.

A scrip representative will be in front of the school office each Monday morning to accept
scrip orders. You or your student can drop your order off prior to the start of school.
Additionally, orders will be accepted in the office on Mondays until 4 pm. If there is no class
on Monday, scrip will be collected on the first school day of that week, but must be turned in
by 9:30 am.


You, or your student, will be asked to sign that you have received your scrip order.

