The course is for new chiefs, progressive chiefs, staff officers, “fast track” firefighters, elected officials and Fire Board members. The course was developed by Fire Chiefs, for current and prospective Fire Chiefs. Participants will be supplied with a resource CD containing over 1,500 fire service related files that if printed would fill in excess of 20,000 pages. Peterson Chief Peterson has been the Fire Chief for Plainfield Charter Township since1993. Previously he was Chief in Fruitport Twp., following sixteen-years with the city of Norton Shores, including five years as Fire Marshal. Receiving his Fire Science degree from Lansing Community College, Chief Peterson has completed the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer program and the CFO designation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence. He was the MFSIA Instructor of the year in 2006. Chief Peterson is the vice chairmen of the Michigan Mutual Aid Task Force, a Past President of the Western Michigan Fire Chiefs, Past Executive Vice President of the Michigan Fire Service Instructors, currently is the Past President of the Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs. Fire Chief David J. Purchase Chief Purchase has 34 years in the fire service beginning as a volunteer firefighter for the City of Norton Shores in 1975. Rising through the ranks he was appointed to the position of Fire Chief in 1999. Chief Purchase has been a certified fire instructor for over 22 years and has taught over 100’s fire officer programs around the state. Receiving his Associates degree from Muskegon Community College, Chief Purchase is also an EFO graduate of the National Fire Academy. He has served twp 3 year terms on the Michigan Firefighters Training Council where he held the position of Vice Chair. He was chosen as MFSIA Instructor of the year in 2004. He currently serves on the Western Michigan Fire Chiefs Executive Board and is Vice President of the MAFC. In 2006 he was selected as Michigan Fire Chief of the Year. Chief Purchase spearheaded the effort to form a Fire Service Caucus here in Michigan and assisted in the creation of the Michigan Fire Services Bureau as the Legislative Liaison with the Michigan Chiefs.
