We have read several religious texts this semester,
starting with the Leiden Hymns and ending with Confucius’
Analects. Compare two of these texts in the alternating
style, focusing on one of the following themes to
characterize the culture and time that produced each for
the texts. The essay must include a recognizable beginning,
middle, and conclusion and will consist of five paragraphs
of 7-10 sentences each, formatted as noted on the Writing
Expectations sheet I supplied for the second essay. For
this essay, it is imperative that you include specific
references to each text in your discussion. A “specific
reference” refers to either direct quotations or
paraphrased lines or dialogue. Any outside research must be
credited within the text of the essay. The acceptable
themes are below.

The existence and nature of the afterlife
The purpose of religious ritual
