After tying the team that they should easily defeat if they want to compete at the actual Olympics, Coach Brooks makes the team do a difficult conditioning skate over and over again until they finally understand why they are there and who they really play for. Uses: 1. Entire movie as a look at servant-leadership and how powerful The Amazing Law of Influence is. (Track #10 has boy explaining ALOI) 2. Forgiveness Scene 1 =(Track #15-16) Ending with Young boy forgiving his single Mom, after he runs away, for slapping him due to her problem with alcoholism. 3. Forgiveness Scene 2 =(Track #30) Because of finding strength from her son forgiving her, the Mom forgives the young boy’s Grandma for the abusive upbringing that she experienced. Scene: In this Sci-Fi film Neo is brought to a meeting with Morpheus where he is challenged to make a choice (will) to continue to believe whatever it is that he wants to believe in his life, or to make the choice to change and “see how far the rabbit hole really goes”. This is great metaphor for making the choice to focus more on others rather than yourself in servant-leadership. Two Scenes: (Note: Look for edited version of movie as there is foul language in parts of Track #17 – I just lower the volume) Scene 1 (Track #6) = Young Latino father comes home from a long day at work to find his little daughter hiding under the bed. He finds out that she is scared because she heard a gunshot. The father uses the essentials of kindness and respect as well as the skill of play to create hope in his daughter to come out from under the bed influencing her with his love. Scene 2 (Track #17) = Near the end of the film the daughter, upon seeing her Dad return home from work, runs outside to save her Dad from a gun wielding store owner who has falsely accused the young father of ruining his business. Because of his influence on his daughter she runs out to save her Dad and right when she jumps in his arms the gun goes off. Luckily the adult daughter of the store owner purchased blanks instead of real bullets for his gun and in the end the girl and her father walk into the house physically unharmed. Scene: Hunter Adams walks into the room of an older patient at the mental ward that he has self committed himself into and asks him to explain the answer to the question the old man has been asking the other patients, “How Leadership in the Movies and Social Media Patch Adams (True Story) Dead Poet’s Society By: John Norlin norlinspeaking@gmail.com like and taking the time to see many fingers do you see?” What transpires is a life changing lesson from the the gifts in others, Not old man to Hunter “Patch” Adams. stopping the first time you get rejected. (Track #4) Next, Patch conducts an experiment with positively interacting with people that ends with him at a meat packers convention. 4. (Track #5) Next, Patch begins to interact with patients, including the kids in the cancer ward. 5. (Track #15) The final couple scenes where Patch has been brought before a committee to decide whether he is going to be removed from medical school for practicing without a license and what transpires is truly inspiring as Patch explains that he wanted to become a doctor so that he could serve others and because of that he has lost everything, but he has also gained everything. Humility & Forgiveness Scene #4 & #13Great combo scene where Rocky and his Manager have an argument after his manager gives his gym locker away (ending with Rocky walking out of the boxing gym)and later Rocky lets out all of his anger when the manager later comes to his house, after Rocky has been offered a title shot, because his pride and feelings have been hurt.
