Course Description: This course combines the knowledge base from each of the different clinical specialties in nursing by reviewing material in a case study format and discussing the studies in seminars. The course follows up with testing in each subject area in preparation for taking the NCLEX examination.
Objectives: 1-At the completion of this course the student would have reviewed material in each clinical and functional subject area of nursing, i.e. medical, surgical, maternity, pediatrics, mental health, geriatrics, pharmacology, community, leadership.
2-Student would also have learned to apply information in a critical thinking format to different clinical scenarios.
3-Furthermore they would have reviewed the test taking skills of the NCLEX format.
4- Student would have taken and passed the each subject test with a minimum of 850 for HESI or 68% for ATI . The instructor will determine which test will be utilized for each subject area.
5- Student would remediate in those areas that are shown in the test results to be areas of weakness.
6- They would have passed the final comprehensive examination with a minimum of an 850 HESIscore or 68% for ATI . This test must be passed to be considered a graduate of the program. If it is not passed by the 3 rd attempt than the student must retake
NURS 220 and cannot graduate.
While these are the cumulative minimum grades for passing this course the 850
HESIscore or ATI 68% pass rate on each examination area of the tests stands as does the comprehensive examination. This higher standard of passing for this course is to prepare
the student for passing the NCLEX examination and therefore readiness to obtain the RN license and practice as an RN.
