Dear CLIENT NAME:
This letter is to inform you that (Center for Arkansas Legal Services/Legal Aid of
Arkansas) has accepted your case on an advice only basis. The advice contained in this
letter and any enclosed materials will help you understand the law and how it applies to
your circumstances so you better understand your legal situation. Read this letter and the
enclosed materials very carefully before deciding what to do next.
You stated that (INSERT CLIENT FACTS).
Whenever you sign a contract or make a purchase over $25 as a result of an in-home
solicitation, you have a three-day right to cancel. This is known as the "cooling off"
period. The salesperson must notify the buyer orally of the right to cancel and provide a
written form to sign, stating that notification of the right to cancel has been given.
Helpful Tips in Home Solicitations:
 Be wary of salespersons that start their sales pitch by saying that they are "just
taking a survey" or "trying to get rid of extra inventory."
 Look very closely at deals that offer "free gifts" and that depend on the purchase
of another product or a packaged deal.
 Do not ever let a salesperson into your home unless you have seen proper
identification and determined exactly what he or she wants.
 No matter how attractive an offer appears, refrain from making an immediate
purchase. It is wise to take a couple of days to consider the actual offer or deal
presented.
 Take the time to compare the salesperson's price and product with others.
 DO NOT BE AFRAID TO SAY, "NO!"
The legal advice given over the telephone and provided in this letter concludes our
services to you at this time. Therefore, I am closing your file. If your situation changes
or you need legal assistance in the future on another matter, please contact the HelpLine
at 1-800-9 LAW AID (1-800-952-9243) to reapply for services.
Respectfully,
