NOT AN EMERGENCY SHELTER
Provides living space, financial education program, rehousing program, job
training for homeless clients, daycare/summer camp for children, transportation
assistance. Adult women and/or adult males have to be in work or school during
the day or looking for a job.
 Free services
 Population served: Women with children, under the age of 18, who can
work, families, or single males with children; cannot house unaccompanied
minors or adult males over the age of 18. Disabled adult male or females
usually do not work, because they must be willing to work (call for more
details, but usually it is not possible with this shelter).
Can accept up to 6 families at a time, depending on size of family; Families
can stay anywhere to 6 months to 1 year. CALL, CALL, CALL for space that is
available at a time-it varies. If no space, be put on waiting list!

VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE; HABERSHAM, STEPHENS, AND
WHITE COUNTY ONLY
For victims of domestic violence that provides emergency shelter, non-residential
program (support and services to those not in the shelter), 24 hour crisis hotline,
individual counseling/support, children’s program, prevention program, support
housing program.

 Population served: Victim of domestic violence; those seeking shelter must
be in serious physical danger; male, female, kids that are experience

DURING THE WINTER SEASON! CLOSES AT 4:30 PM UNTIL WINTER
TIME
This is appointment only (expect Wednesdays walk ins) -can do follow-ups by
calling once a month. Appointments last 30 minutes to an hour. Provides services
such case management, showers, laundry, hygiene supplies, finding housing and
employment, food from time to time (donation-based, so it varies), therapy, skill
building, community connection within Athens, transportation help, emergency
services. Appointments have to be made by phone call or walk in to make future
appointment. If no appointment is made-there is WALK-IN WEDNESDAY which is
first come, first serve (people will line up at 6am).

 Population served: Homeless in shelters or on the streets/places not meant
for human habitation only; no transitional shelter residents or clients who
live with family or friends.

Interfaith Hospitality Network
PROVIDE SHELTER, BREAKFAST AND DINNER, AND SUPPORT FAMILIES
WITHOUT HOMES UP TO MAXIMUM OF 90 DAYS. ONLY HOMELESS
FAMILIES *BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIRED.
Parents must be willing and able to work. It is a day service center that provides
extensive services including showers and laundry facilities, and child care services.
 Free services
 Population served: Only homeless families with children, background check
is required. There can be a waiting list since there are only 14 beds
provided. Call ahead to be on the waiting list.

Peace Place, Inc.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INDIVIDUALS
Provides safe shelter, case management services included referrals to housing,
job placement, education & health services, and support groups for adults,
domestic violence victims as well as children, and teens who have witnessed
domestic violence victims. The women and men are required to be willing to work
(with the help of job placement). Everything (food, clothing, toiletries, etc..) is
included in the living; up to 15 beds for women and children; and the men and
children are a different case and will be relocated to the transitional housing.
Maximum stay varies, but can be up to 90 days.
 Free services
Population served: Victims of domestic violence; children and teens who
have witnessed domestic violence, battered women and their children;
battered men and their children are accepted and put into the transitional
housing outside the women and children shelter and still provide the same
services; CALL FOR INTAKE AND IF INDIVIDUAL FITS CRITERIA!
Once stable with a job and finances, the family can transition into one of
the transitional housing (there are 2 houses and 4 apartments) with
affordable rent, including utilities.

Sober Living America
DRUG AND ALCOHOL residential long-term treatment program; STEP
UP program for indigent individuals at NO cost until employment. It
provides treatment, living, and help with finding employment.
 Services are free to individuals with NO MONEY; once individual finds a
job and gets paid, they will pay for rent and program expenses $175/week
(only when they have a job).
 Population served: any individuals anywhere, male and females 18 and up
with drug and/or alcohol problem; up to 86 residents; CALL ahead to see if
space is available and conduct phone interview; living up to 6 months.

The Potter’s House (ATL MISSION)
CHRIST-CENTERED, 180-BED RESIDENTIAL DISCIPLESHIP PROGRAM
FOR CHEMICALLY ADDICTED MEN WHO TRULY DESIRE TO CHANGE.
Provides a full continuum of care for residents and leadership training
opportunities for graduates; Focus is on applied Christianity for the
healing of total person, recovery from life controlling problems, and
preparation for successful living.
 Fees: IF ONE HAS AN INCOME OF ANY TYPE-$100/WEEK but THOSE
WITHOUT INCOME will not be charged unless income status changes.
 Population served: Must be male between ages 25-55 requesting
admission themselves, admitting their addiction problem and willing to
change; agree to abide by all guidelines, fully participate in all aspects of
the program, be fully detoxified and 72 hours away from last use of drugs
or alcohol of any kind; be willing and able to commit to an uninterrupted
one-year residential program; by physically able to perform work
assignments such as shop, recycling, landscaping, farm, housekeeping,
kitchen, or warehouse

Short-term emergency shelter (up to 1 month, depending on

encouragement and help with job placement.

Bigger Vision Community Shelter
SHELTER WILL RESUME/OPEN BACK UP IN MID-OCTOBER 2015 FOR
THE WINTER SEASON
Residents can only book one day at a time and to stay more than one
day you must call each day. 36 beds, first call first serve basis, 1 meal
each night and breakfast, call starting at 4pm to make a list of people
until full or until 8pm on that day; if the weather is 35 degree
Fahrenheit or below they will accept 10 more people if full. Call, call,
call to put name down for sleep during the cold nights!

 Population served: ONLY adult men and women over 18 years old that are
homeless and need place to sleep.

Provides emergency shelter up to 30 days to anyone that needs shelter
in that 5-county radius; 3 meals/day. Will not turn anyone away.
 Fees: If they have a little bit of money $15/day is asked, but will not
turn anyone away if they do not have money-accepts anyone.

provide food, clothing, and furniture to those in need from the thrift
store locations.

 Population served: Males, 18 years or older, that has a drug or alcohol
program and need help. Does not have to be from Gwinnett County-serves
any male all throughout.

Emergency financial assistance for utilities, rent and prescriptions, I.D. and birth
certificate help, drug and alcohol addiction counseling is available by appointment
only, Thursday afternoon chapel (serves hot meal), homeless services that include
showers and laundry, breakfast club on Saturday’s, and clothes closet.
 Fees: NONE; but because of the funding, an individual must wait 3 months
to get another service.

TRANSPORTATION Program serves the needs of older commuters
whose transportation needs are not met by traditional services.
Available for medical appointments, pharmacy visits, shopping, Adult
Day Health services, community based programs, and other social
service activities and essential community resources. Specialized
transportation for those using wheelchairs is available.
 Fees: For those meeting the low income criteria there is no direct charge
for the service, but do encourage and accept donations. For individuals

Emergency financial assistance for utilities, rent and prescriptions, I.D. and birth
certificate help, drug and alcohol addiction counseling is available by appointment
only, Thursday afternoon chapel (serves hot meal), homeless services that include
showers and laundry, breakfast club on Saturday’s, and clothes closet.
 Fees: NONE; but because of the funding, an individual must wait 3 months
to get another service.
