Supported by the European Intermodal Association (EIA) and hosted by the Port of Amsterdam, the 2010 event takes place from 30 November – 2 December providing a buying, education and discussion forum for the industry Philip Hunter, Event Director of Intermodal Europe 2010, commented: “Since the last Intermodal Europe event, the economy has changed significantly. As we begin to see signs that trade is picking up, I believe that now is the perfect time to offer industry executives a meeting place to re-build and grow business again and Intermodal Europe 2010 will offer such a platform.” Intermodal Europe is the only forum which plays host to thousands of professionals from the intermodal industry, and this year is no different with the exhibition floor featuring leading exhibitors from around the globe. Peter Wolters, Deputy Secretary General of the EIA, said: “We are delighted that Intermodal Europe is returning this year. The event is the last opportunity of the year to find solutions for running more efficient and profitable operations and explore new opportunities. There are numerous untapped resources which could be released via co-operation with other transport modes, new collaborative partnerships, bundling of freight flows, innovative loading units, neutral data sharing single windows, even new intermodal e-learning platforms. I will be recommending Intermodal Europe 2010 to our members as it provides the perfect platform to learn and meet while sharing experiences regarding freight best practices.” Intermodal Europe will take place at the Amsterdam RAI, undoubtedly the most significant conference and exhibition centre in the Netherlands. The Port of Amsterdam, as host port, is one of the world’s key logistical hubs and one of Europe’s five biggest ports handling over 86 million metric tons of cargo annually. Intermodal Conference: new decade, new world? This year’s event will feature a series of free-to-attend conference sessions that will explore a wide range of issues affecting the container, road, rail and maritime logistics industries. During these exhibition-floor sessions, a host of high profile and respected speakers will offer visitors a unique insight into the industry and allow them to take part in debates shaping the future of intermodalism. Philip Hunter added: “We are dedicated to providing the highest quality editorial content possible and this year’s conference will feature presentations from some of the most respected people from across the logistics sectors. The sessions will be free for visitors to attend and will provide essential market information to allow executives to develop their operations.” Already confirmed for the Amsterdam show are some of the world’s leading shippers including Chris Broadbent (European Logistics Development Director, Unilever Supply Chain Company), Jacques Poulet (Head of Logistics, Nestlé Waters) and Frank Arendt (Associate Director Western European Logistics Purchases, Procter & Gamble) debating the real drivers and challenges for purchasers of transportation today and how container logistics fit into that. The second area of study at this year’s show will be the ‘Operations Stream’, highlighting how business models are changing to become more innovative and service led and discussing the latest feedback from The European Commission’s Review , Consultations on Sustainable Transport Initiatives and The Future of Intermodalism.
