LESSON PLAN 1 – Alana Conover Class level Classroom Intermediate 3 Progress expectation The students should be able to pronounce and use the winter activity vocabulary in their sentences with the correct usages. Vocabulary of weekend activities during the winter My weekend I aim to prepare students how to plan weekend activities with friends and family during the winter. At the end of the lesson, students should be able to use the correct verb associated with each of the 8 new winter vocabulary words. They should be able to describe what each activity is and pronounce it correctly. I assume the students have little knowledge of specific activities and know basic vocabulary for general everyday activities. Also, I assume they know simple basic sentences. I will use the whiteboard to write out words and phrases, handouts for multiple activities, and pictures of the winter vocabulary words. I will first get the students to state their name and an activity they like to do in general to do to get a general idea of their level. Then we will move onto the vocabulary words and determine how well they understand them. Then use sentences so they understand the correct verbs to use for the sentences and then follow up with an interactive activity to test their new knowledge. I did not feel the lesson went as planned. I believe my lesson was too simple for them and my understanding for an intermediate class was incorrect. I did have to adapt my plan some to make it a little more challenging for the students so I felt they learned something. I would explain to them the proper usages of the verbs with the vocabulary words, for example the differences between ‘build’ and ‘make.’ My students still participated well for it being a bit easy at first for them and they still contributed. I had one student that was at intermediate and struggled more at pronouncing and writing the words out. She was also a bit shy to try compared to the others but still participated when asked. The students’ attention level was good as well and no one behaved negatively. I believe I could have cut down my teacher talking time a little but I felt to keep them interested and keep participating I had to do a little more talking then I should have. I believe all my instructions were clear even though I was a little nervous but they seemed to understand me quite well. I now have a better understanding of the basic skills of the intermediate student so in the future I will be able to design my lessons to be more effective for the students. He was eager to learn more and asked appropriate questions. However, I felt he would be better suited in the advanced classes. 60 Low Intermediate She struggled with the pronouncement of most of the words. Her sentences were very basic. She participated well but was a little on the shy side and had a friend in the class help her mostly. 35 Intermediate to She spoke clear sentences and understood everything I high Maite Blanca Intermediate 40 Intermediate said to her. She didn’t participate as much as I would like but still did the work when asked and helped one of the other students. Her speaking level was okay but her writing and reading were very good. She participated with everything and asked questions when needed but I believe she thought the class was too easy for her. She came in a bit late so she missed the initial introduction of the words but caught on quickly. She was also a bit on the shy said but worked very well and made a good effort on all the activities and would always ask for help when needed.
