Rigoletto
Music by Giuseppe Verdi
Melodramma in three acts.
Libretto by Francesco Maria Piave after Le Roi s’amuse by Victor Hugo.
Conductor:Renato Palumbo
Direction: Leo Muscato
It is considered by many to be the first of the operatic masterpieces of Verdi’s middle-tolate career. Its tragic story revolves around the licentious Duke of Mantua, his hunchbacked court jester Rigoletto, and Rigoletto’s beautiful daughter Gilda. The opera’s original title, La maledizione (The Curse), refers to the curse placed on both the Duke and Rigoletto by a courtier whose daughter had been seduced by the Duke with
Rigoletto’s encouragement. The curse comes to fruition when Gilda likewise falls in love with the Duke and eventually sacrifices her life to save him from the assassins hired by her father.

Tosca
Music by Giacomo Puccini
Melodramma in three acts
Libretto by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica after the drama by Victorien Sardou
Conductor: Donato Renzetti
Direction: Alessandro Talevi
It premiered at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome on 14 January 1900. The work, based on
Victorien Sardou’s 1887 Frenchlanguage dramatic play, La Tosca, is a melodramatic piece set in Rome in June 18 00, with the Kingdom of Naples’s control of Rome threatened by Napoleon’s invasion of Italy. It contains depictions of torture, murder and suicide, as well as some of Puccini’s best-known lyrical arias, and has inspired memorable performances from many of opera’s leading singers.
Puccini saw Sardou’s play when it was touring Italy in 1889 and, after some vacillation, obtained the rights to turn the work into an opera in 1895. Turning the wordy French play into a succinct Italian opera took four years, during which the composer repeatedly argued with his librettists and publisher. Tosca premiered at a time of unrest in Rome, and its first performance was delayed for a day for fear of disturbances. Despite indifferent reviews from the critics, the opera was an immediate success with the public.

The Marriage of Figaro
Musica by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Commedia per musica in four acts.
Libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte.
Conductor and Direction: Andrea De Rosa.
Is an opera buffa (comic opera) in four acts composed in 1786 by Wolfgang Amadeus
Mozart, with an Italian libretto written by Lorenzo Da Ponte based on a stage comedy by Pierre Beaumarchais, La folle journée, ou le Mariage de Figaro (1784).
The Marriage of Figaro continues the plot of The Barber of Seville several years later, and recounts a single “day of madness” (la folle journée) in the palace of Count
Almaviva near Seville, Spain. Rosina is now the Countess; Dr. Bartolo is seeking revenge against Figaro for thwarting his plans to marry Rosina himself; and Count
Almaviva has degenerated from the romantic youth of Barber into a scheming, bullying, skirt-chasing baritone. Having gratefully given Figaro a job as head of his servantstaff, he is now persistently trying to obtain the favors of Figaro’s bride-to-be,
Susanna. He keeps finding excuses to delay the civil part of the wedding of his two servants, which is arranged for this very day. Figaro, Susanna, and the Countess conspire to embarrass the Count and expose his scheming. He responds by trying to compel Figaro legally to marry a woman old enough to be his mother, but it turns out at the last minute that she really is his mother. Through Figaro’s and Susanna’s clever manipulations, the Count’s love for his Countess is finally restored.

The Nutcracker
Music by Pëtr Il’ič Čajkovskij
Ballet in two acts.
Conductor: Nir Kabaretti.
Choreography: Amedeo Amodio.
A two-act ballet, originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov with a score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (op. 71). The libretto is adapted from E.T.A. Hoffmann’s story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. It was given its première at the Mariinsky
Theatre in St. Petersburg on Sunday, December 18, 1892, on a double-bill with
Tchaikovsky’s opera, Iolanta.
Although the original production was not a success, the twenty-minute suite that
Tchaikovsky extracted from the ballet was. However, the complete Nutcracker has enjoyed enormous popularity since the late 1960s and is now performed by countless ballet companies, primarily during the Christmas season, especially in the
U.S.Major American ballet companies generate around 40 percent of their annual ticket revenues from performances of The Nutcracker.
Tchaikovsky’s score has become one of his most famous compositions, in particular the pieces featured in the suite. Among other things, the score is noted for its use of the celesta, an instrument that the composer had already employed in his much lesser known symphonic ballad The Voyevoda with the Duke and eventually sacrifices her life to save him from the assassins hired by her father.

Le Chant Du Rossignol - Carmina Burana
Le Chant du Rossignol, Music by Igor Stravinskij
Carmina Burana, Music Carl Orff
Le Chant Du Rossignol, commonly referred to as The Song of the Nightingale, is a symphonic poem written by Igor Stravinsky in 1917. The song is an adaptation from his earlier work, Le rossignol (The Nightingale), an opera from 1914. The opera, based on
Hans Christian Andersen’s tale The Nightingale, is set in three acts, told from the point of view of a Chinese fisherman. In the orchestral version, Stravinsky mostly uses music from acts two and three. Carmina Burana is a scenic cantata composed by Carl Orff in 1935 and 1936, based on 24 poems from the medieval collection Carmina Burana. Its full Latin title is Carmina Burana: Cantiones profanæ cantoribus et choris cantandæ comitantibus instrumentis atque imaginibus magicis (Songs of Beuern: Secular songs for singers and choruses to be sung together with instruments and magic images).
Carmina Burana is part of Trionfi, a musical triptych that also includes Catulli Carmina and Trionfo di Afrodite. The first and last movements of the piece are called “Fortuna
Imperatrix Mundi” (Fortune, Empress of the World) and start with the very well known “O
Fortuna”.

Discover Rome as you’ve never done before aboard an ecological 3-wheeled vehicle!
Along with our chauffeur, you will enjoy the atmosphere of the legendary 60s aboard our electricallypowered Ape Calessino. The route will take you where others can’t reach, gliding through the ancient streets and most imposing archaeological sites in the Italian capital.
After a twohour tour, we’ll stop at an amazing venue on the only island on the Tiber
River, right in the heart of the city. You will taste local cheeses, wines, oils, and meats from small producers (hard to find in shops) in a comfortable and contemporary space, surrounded by authentic Roman underground ruins.
