The Story
Jamal Malik, an 18 year old from the slums of Mumbai, is just one question away from winning 20
million rupees on the Indian TV show “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” But how could a street kid
know the answers when professors, doctors and lawyers don’t? Before Jamal answers the final
questions, the police arrest him for cheating. To prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life. For
each answer he gives on the show, he tells a dramatic life story that explains how he acquired the
knowledge to answer the question. But one question remains a mystery: Why is Jamal, who doesn’t
seem to care about money, really on the show? Once again, the answer is found in Jamal’s past……
