May 2004

New Lanark World Heritage Site is hosting a May Day Food Fair on Bank Holiday

Monday 3 rd May. The event will run from 11am to 5pm and is promising to draw another big crowd this year with market stalls selling fresh produce from around the country. There is a huge range of food and drink on offer from fresh meats to hand made chocolates.

Chefs from the New Lanark Mill Hotel will be showing off their culinary talents in a number of cooking demonstrations throughout the day, which will feature produce from the stallholders. The demonstrations will highlight dishes on offer at the New

Lanark Mill Hotel with recipe cards available and special discount vouchers for a meal at the Hotel.

For the first time at New Lanark, wine tasting workshops are being planned for the

May Day Food Fair. These will also run throughout the day and are to be led by

Graeme Scott of Scott’s Wine World. There will be plenty of wine to try with expert advice on hand to guide your taste buds.

The market stalls boast a superb selection of goods, including Scottish meats, fish, dairy products, preserves and luxury handmade chocolates. A wide variety of Scottish mead wines, fruit wines, spirits and liqueurs will be available from a number of

Scottish producers. There is also a strong focus on organic and whole foods, and the promotion of local suppliers.

New Lanark’s Food Fair gives visitors the chance to enjoy some of Scotland’s finest produce. Come down and try traditional Scottish mead or treat yourself to some luxury chocolates. Whether you are looking, trying or buying, the huge variety on offer is guaranteed to thrill your taste buds!
