EMT-Enhanced Course
The EMT-Enhanced: Virginia Standard Curriculum represents an entry level
advanced care provider and can be used as either a terminal objective in itself
or a transition to higher levels of education and/or certification at the EMT Intermediate
or EMT-Paramedic levels. This curriculum was developed as a sub-set of lessons from the
Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate: National Standard Curriculum and contains lessons and
didactic information also included in the EMT-Intermediate program. As a sub-set of the
EMT Intermediate program, the EMT-Enhanced: Virginia Standard Curriculum is designed to maintain
consistency with national prehospital care guidelines, while meeting the specific needs of Virginia’s EMS

No Fee for Spotsylvania Rescue Squad Members
$300 for all other applicants payable at time of registration to reserve a space. Full
payment must be made by the first night of the course.
Note: The student can seek tuition reimbursement from the Office of EMS after certifying
at the EMT Enhanced level.
Registration:
To register, complete the EMT-Enhanced Application Packet. For questions

Class size is limited to 18 students.
To be eligible to attend an EMT-Enhanced Course in Virginia, you must:
A. Be proficient in reading, writing and speaking the English language.
B. Be a minimum of 18 years of age at the beginning date of the certification program.
C. Hold current Virginia certification as an EMT or higher EMS certification level.
D. Hold, at a minimum, a high school or general equivalency diploma.
E. Have no physical or mental impairment that would render him unable to perform all
practical skills required for that level of training.
F. Not have been convicted or found guilty of any crime, offense or regulatory violation,
or participated in any other prohibited conduct identified in state EMS regulations.
G. All references to criminal acts or convictions under this section refer to substantially
similar laws or regulations of any other state or the United States. Convictions include
prior adult convictions, juvenile convictions and adjudications of delinquency based on
an offense that would have been, at the time of conviction, a felony conviction if
committed by an adult within or outside Virginia.
H. Have successful completed the REMS ALS Pretest prior to admission to the course.
A copy of a valid VA EMT certification card, acceptable CPR card, and copy of a
Government issued ID that includes a birthday should be submitted with the registration
form but no later than the first night of class. A copy of a High School Diploma or
transcript or GED must be submitted by the first night of class.
Course fees: The cost for the course is $300. Additional fees include the book and
medical screening for clinical rotations. Non SVRS Members must pay the course fee
by the first night of class.
